7. An Unexpected Gift

The next day began with bright sunshine, and I felt refreshed after a peaceful night. Today was my 17th birthday. My mind was so much clearer since Rengoku was back home.I wasn't expecting much today because we always just spent my birthday together and maybe went shopping. Rengoku always paid for the stuff I chose. He's literally like a father to me.
"Wakey Wakey!" Rengoku shouted excited, jumping up and down at the door of my room. He then saw that I was already awake and walked over to me. "Come on! We have to celebrate your birthday!!" he said jumping around like a little kid. He was very excited and it confused me. Wasn't my birthday going to be like the other ones? Rengoku went back into the kitchen waiting for me to come in too. I got up and chose to wear a brown dress, it wasn't tight but also wasn't too loose looking. It was perfect for a summer day like this. I left my hair open and styled it with light curls. I wanted this day to be somewhat more special than the normal ones. As I was finished I walked out of my room. The moment I walked into the kitchen I saw something on my food plate. There were sakura mochis and onigiris laying on my plate and the smile on my face grew.

Those were one of my favorite foods. I smiled as I sat down and began to ate breakfast with Rengoku. "Thank you so much Rengoku! Those are delicious!" He just smiled back at me. Rengoku knew my favorites and he always made me happy. How did he get those tho? Was that the reason he came back that late at night? He's such a great guy....

After breakfast Rengoku excused himself. I was a bit sad that I was alone now.
Rengoku was weird today. He was so hyperactive the whole time. Something was going on for sure. As I walked down the street just wanting to get some fresh air everyone was gone. It felt like no one lived here but I have always seen some of the hashiras spending their time in the garden of the demon slayer corp. Now it was weirdly quiet.
I guess everyone avoided me now. What happend tho? As I walked back to the estate of Rengoku I looked at a clock in the house. It was 1 p.m. and oh boy was I hungry. I decided to eat spaghetti with bolognese.
All of the sudden someone knocked on the door of Rengoku's estate. When I opened it, Genya stood there with a small package in his hands. "Happy Birthday, Y/N," he said shyly, handing me the gift. It was a handmade bracelet of flowers and beads that he had made himself."Oh, Genya, this is so beautiful. Thank you so much!" I said, touched, and hugged him spontaneously. Genya blushed extremely at her sudden touch and slowly added "It is made out of special flowers like Chrysanthemums which symbolize longevity and good fortune and Peonies which are considered to bring prosperity and good luck. I thought it would be nice since you'd might need it..." he mumbled still captured in your hug. That's so nice of him. How did he get all of this so quickly. I told him about my birthday only yesterday..."You're so sweet. I will wear it forever" I said and put the bracelet on my right wrist admiring it's beauty. I didn't expect something like that from a guy I didn't even know for that long. As I looked up I saw Genya already looking at me with red cheeks. I laughed at his face expression. "Uhm hey Y/N. Would you like to go on a walk with me?" he asked shyly and waited for an answer, looking on the ground and nervously playing with his fingers. "Oh yes sure! No one's home anyways. I think Rengoku has some plans going on which I don't know about. Let's go!"

We walked down a path. Genya guided me through a forest which was lightened by the bright sunshine.
The fact that I haven't seen anybody else than Genya and Rengoku today didn't get out of my head so I began to ask Genya about it."Genya, can I ask you something? I can't get it out of my head.." I said and he just looked at me and nodded. "Have you seen anybody else than me today? I didn't see anyone. It's like they are hiding." I explained and he looked at me like he felt the same. "No I'm sorry Y/N. The only person I saw was Himejima Gyomei today since he trains me... There was no one else around. I have no glue about what's going on.." he answered and looked back down. "Oh that's alright. At least I'm not the only person experiencing this situation." I said and we continued heading through the forest. It was peaceful and quiet. I looked left and right admiring the nature until my eyes stopped at Genya. I looked up at him without him noticing. His hair moved in the rhythm of the wind. Why do I feel like I enjoy the time with him? As I sank into thoughts but then he suddenly stopped and I walked right into him. I nearly fell to the ground but Genya turned around quickly and held my hand to avoid it. I quickly stood up and cleaned my clothes. I looked down at the ground in embarrassed. "I'm sorry I was zoned out.." I said with a red head. He just jiggled a bit and as he did I looked up at him. He looked cute laughing like that. His cheeks were colored pink and his smile lines showed slightly. My embarrassment was quickly gone and I began jiggled a bit too.

"So where are we now. I don't see anything?" I asked breaking the funny moment.
"Well, if you close your eyes I'll show you." he said with a smile on his face. "Alright I'll trust you." I said jiggling a bit. He took my hand slowly and began to walk. He was so gentle with it, I thought an angel held my hand. My eyes still closed and him guiding me, we reached the spot Genya was so excited about showing me. "You can now open your eyes" he said and watched as you opened your eyes which looked so beautiful in the sunlight that Genya started looking right into them.
Right in front of me was a big lake. In some spots it was filled with a bunch of water lillies and there were ducks swimming around an isolated small island in the middle of the lake. My eyes widened at the beautiful sight in front of me. "Genya this place is beautiful!" I said still looking around, scanning the surrounding. "Thank you for bringing me here." As I turned around to look at him I saw him looking directly at me. The eye contact lasted a few seconds before Genya blushed hard and looked away, trying to hide the fact that he was red like a tomatoe again. 
"No.. No problem" he stuttered and rubbed the back of his neck.
Then I realized that he was still holding onto my hand and he realized too. "I'm sorry" he said quickly and let go off my hand. I jiggled a bit and just sat down. He did too and we sat there for a while until it was 4 p.m. "I think we should head back now. I think Rengoku might be back and I don't want him to worry about me being gone." I said awkwardly. Genya agreed, looking a bit sad for a second but then he also got up and we began to walk back through the forest. "You made my day Genya" I said smiling at him. Since he showed up today, I didn't feel alone and was happy. Genya looked back at me and just blushed, not saying anything.
After some time we reached the estate again. As I opened the door something flew towards me. A confetti Canon exploded in front of me and Genya. He jumped back a bit at the sudden sound. I stood there in shock. The hashiras were here. Rengoku, Tengen and Mitsuri stood at the door and began to sing a birthday song. I was so embarrassed. Why did Rengoku bring the hashiras here? HOW did he do that? I didn't question it further and just enjoyed the moment. I was happy that someone came here for me. They came to celebrate my birthday
"Let's party!!" shouted Rengoku and pulled me inside, Genya was pulled inside by Mitsuri which he didn't like. He became red again, not moving at all, not knowing how to behave. She just dragged him in anyway.

The hashiras brought gifts and good wishes. Shinobu even brought my favorite flowers. The evening was crowned with a big feast that Rengoku had prepared himself. Everyone laughed and told stories, and I finally felt happy and loved again. But something was off. I noticed that Sanemi was here too but he was sitting at the completely other side of the table as Genya who was next to me. Genya was quiet most of the time and just listened to us talking. I will need to figure out what was going on with those two.
Everyone noticed the bracelet I had on my wrist and admired it. Genya became flustered at me mentioning that he gifted the bracelet to me since everyone looked at him now. I guess they didn't expect it either. Suddenly Genya was brought into every conversation and we had a nice evening. I now knew every hashira. They were all different from each other. One was joyful and hyperactive and the other one was quiet as fuck.
Nevertheless I liked their company.
Time to time the guests left since it became late and once Gyomei said his good bye, Genya went home with him. I hugged him and he gently hugged me back. When ending the hug he couldn't hide the blush on his face. He quickly said good bye and turned around, running after Gyomei who was already heading back. I jiggled slightly at the scene and then returned back inside. Since I now knew that Rengoku was gone for a reason and they did in fact hide from me but only so they could organize this party. I was relieved from all the thoughts I had before about this situation.

At the end of the day, when the guests had all left, me and Rengoku sat on the veranda and looked at the starry sky. "You have a good heart, Y/N. You will be a great Demon Slayer," Rengoku said proudly. I smiled and felt a deep sense of contentment. It had been an unforgettable birthday, and I knew that with my new friendships and with Genya, I could achieve anything in the future.
