ship: slightly hinted eijiro kirishima + katsuki bakugo
The battle had been fierce, even by the standards of U.A. High's hero students. The villain they faced had unleashed a devastating attack that left destruction in its wake. When the dust finally settled, the members of Class 1-A were tending to their wounds and searching for their comrades.
Kirishima's heart raced as he spotted Bakugo lying motionless amidst the rubble. "Bakugo!" he shouted, sprinting towards his friend. Kneeling beside him, Kirishima could see that Bakugo was badly injured but alive. Relief flooded through him, but it was short-lived as he noticed the blood trickling from Bakugo's ears.
The medical team arrived quickly, and Bakugo was rushed to the hospital. Kirishima stayed by his side the entire time, refusing to leave even when urged by the nurses. Hours later, the doctor approached him, his expression grave.
"Kirishima-san, Bakugo has suffered an injury called tympanic membrane perforation or in simple terms, severe damage to his eardrums. I'm afraid he's lost his hearing."
The words hit Kirishima like a punch to the gut. He remembered Bakugo expressing fears about this very possibility after several previous battles with powerful villains in the past. He'd always put on a brave front, but Kirishima knew Katsuki. He knew how much this would kill him.
When Bakugo finally woke up, the reality of his situation was met with a mix of confusion and anger. He couldn't hear the beeping of the machines or the concerned murmurs of the nurses. He saw their mouths moving but couldn't understand what they were saying. Panic set in.
Kirishima was there, holding Bakugo's hand firmly. He leaned in, his face filled with determination and compassion, and began to communicate through the only means left – written notes and sign language, which they had learned in their first year.
"Bakugo, you're safe. You were injured, and... you can't hear right now. But we're here for you. I'm here for you."
Bakugo's eyes widened, and for a moment, pure rage filled him. He ripped the paper from Kirishima's hands and threw it across the room, letting out a silent scream of frustration and anger. Kirishima stayed calm, his own heart breaking for his friend.
As the days passed, Kirishima never left Bakugo's side. He helped him navigate his new silent world, learning more sign language to better communicate and keeping a notepad handy at all times. The other students visited often, bringing notes and learning signs to show their support.
One evening, as the sun set and cast a warm glow over the hospital room, Kirishima sat beside Bakugo, scribbling a note.
"We're all here for you, man. You're still the same badass hero, even without your hearing. Don't forget that."
Bakugo took the note, reading it slowly. His hands trembled slightly as he signed back, "Why are you always here for me, Shitty Hair?"
Kirishima grinned, his eyes filled with tears he refused to let fall. He signed back, "Because you're my best friend and you mean everything to me, I'm not going anywhere 'Suki."
Bakugo's tough exterior cracked just a little. He signed, "Thanks, Ei."
Days turned into weeks, and Bakugo gradually adapted to his new reality. He returned to U.A. High, determined not to let his hearing loss define him. His classmates, led by Kirishima, rallied around him, ensuring he never felt alone.
One afternoon, during a training session, Bakugo was paired with Kirishima for a sparring match. Despite the silent world he now lived in, Bakugo's explosive power and fierce determination were undiminished. He moved with the same precision and ferocity, and Kirishima matched him blow for blow.
After the match, Bakugo signed, "I'm still going to be number one, you know."
Kirishima laughed, signing back, "I never doubted it for a second."
In the months that followed, Bakugo continued to push his limits, proving that he was just as formidable without his hearing. And through it all, Kirishima remained by his side, his unwavering support a constant reminder that Bakugo was never alone.
Their bond, forged in the crucible of battle and strengthened through adversity, grew even stronger. And though Bakugo's world was silent, the friendship and loyalty of his friends spoke volumes, loud and clear.
