Music could be heard from downstairs, along with the sounds of laughter and talking from the crowd. But upstairs, the room was tense. Bella sat with Edward of a sofa, Delphine and Alice both pacing. Jasper and Carlisle watched them as they talked, making sure the girls were alright. Jacob stood in a corner, trying to keep up. Quil and Embry stood by the door, keeping guard.
"How long?" Edward asked, wrapping an arm around Bella.
"they'll be here in four days" Alice answered, not looking up as she continued to pace.
"God. This will be a blood bath" Delphine muttered as she paced, her left hand rapidly tapping her fingers together
"Who's behind it?" Edward turned to Alice, ignoring his sisters comment
"I don't see anyone I recognize. Maybe one...." Alice trailed off, stopping her pacing and turning to Edward
"I know his face" He answered for her "He's local. Riley Biers" he paused, adding as he looked at Bella "He didn't start this"
"Whoever did isn't making the decisions. They're staying out of the action" Delphine told her as she paced, a frown on her face.
Carlisle nodded and looked at Alice "They must be playing with the blind spots in your vision"Jasper sighed, taking Alice's hand and gently pulling her closer "Either way, the army is coming... and there aren't enough of us to protect the town"
"Hold up" Jacob demanded as he stepped forward "What damn army?"
Carlisle glanced at Edward, before speaking "Newborns. Our kind"
Embry leaned against the wooden portion of the wall, asking "Well, what are they after"
Alice turned to him, explaining "They were passing around Bella's scent. A red blouse"
"They're after Bella?" He asked
"Yes!" Delphine snapped, turning to him "This'll mean a fight. A bad fight. With lives lost"
Jacob watched her with a frown, gently taking her hand and pulling her closer. He gently took her hand, stopping her pacing and calming her down immediately.
Delphine sighed and looked to Embry "I'm sorry. I'm just freaking out about this" she turned to the Cullens with a frown "How are you so calm?"
They didn't respond, but Alice shrugged lightly. Jacobs hand in hers provided warmth to her icy skin, as well as comforting her as she stressed about the impending fight.
There was a pause, before Jacob spoke "Alright...
We're in""No" Bella immediately said "You'll get yourselves killed. No way"
Jacob shook his head "I wasn't asking for permission" his hand rested on Delphine's shoulder, his fingers gently tracing her skin
"Edward" Bella pleased as she turned to him
"It means more protection for you" he shrugged
She turned to Jacob, a desperate look on her face "Jacob"
Carlisle turned to Jacob with a frown "Do you believe Sam will agree to... an understanding?"
The werewolf shrugged "As long as we get to kill some vampires"
"Jasper?" Carlisle asked
Bella looked to Delphine for help, but the vampire girl only placed her head in her hand, gently rubbing her temple
"They'll give us the numbers" Jasper said with a nod, clearly supporting the idea "And the newborns won't know they even exist. That'll give us an edge"
Carlisle thought for a moment, before speaking again "We'll need to coordinate"
Bella turned to him, intent on making the wolves reconsider "Carlisle, they're gonna get hurt"
He only sighed, shaking his head "We'll all need some training. Fighting newborns requires knowledge that Jasper has" he tried to Jacob "You're welcome to join us. Alright"
Jacob nodded, a steely expression on his face "Name the time and place"

After they get the information, Jacob gave Delphine a small smile, before heading to the door with Quil and Embry. She moved to the sofa, placing her head in her hands.
Before Jacob could leave, Bella caught his wrist, making him stop "Jake... You don't know what you're getting yourself into"
Jacob only shook his head, a sarcastic smile on his face "Bella... This is what we do. You should be happy. Look at us, working together. You're the one who wanted us to get along, remember?"
Delphine watched him leave, before looking at Bella "I'll go talk to him" she told her softly, slipping out of the house silently behind them.
--
"Jake" Delphine called as the three wolves began to walk away. Jacob turned, nodding to Embry and Quil. They both left with a short goodbye to Delphine, and disappeared into the forest.
"You can't be serious about this" she told him softly, walking beside him as he began making his way back to his side of the treaty.
"This is our job" he insisted "It's what we were made to do"
"You don't have to fight her battle for her. Ours either" she told her as the walked through the woods with him "We can handle this ourselves"
"But you don't have to" he stopped her, taking her hand once again. They stood silent for a moment, simply looking at each other "Look, I may not like the Cullens. But I want to help you. I don't want you fighting alone"
She sighed, yet kept her hand in his as they walked to the treaty line. Once they reached the line, Delphine looked up at him.
"I'll see you Thursday" she spoke softly, almost like she didn't want to disrupt the moment
"Yeah" he told her softly, before pausing "Hey, I'm sorry for-"
Don't" she told him with a soft smile "Look, after this is all over, well hang out. You can make it up to me. Just make sure you give Bella an apology. A proper one"
He nodded excitedly "Yes ma'am"
Delphine rolled her eyes, shoving him away while laughing "Quit that. Now go get some sleep, it's late"
He smiled and laughed with her, shaking his head as he jumped over the ravine. He looked back at her once, before walking off into the woods.
Once Delphine was alone, she began to think. Was she really ready to accept his apology? Was she really ready to move on, and potentially be with him?
She shook the thoughts from her head, turning and beginning to walk back to the Cullens house. She'll find out soon enough.
