Avery dragged her feet across the pavement. Monday mornings were always the worst for her. Especially since the hospital she works at would be extra busy today, she promised her parents that she would visit them today since it has been a while. Avery knew today was going to be busy, so she decided to treat herself to her favorite cafe, which was only a few streets down from her apartment. She knew it was biased since she works part-time there, but it's been getting popular recently with lots of good reviews.

The line wasn't as big as it usually was. Avery felt relieved; she was already running late because she had slept through her alarms. For her, a day without coffee is truly nothing. She soon noticed it was her turn, so she pulled out her wallet from her beige tote bag. She took her card out of her wallet, and while doing so, she dropped her credit card. Avery swiftly puts her wallet in her tote bag. She could feel people's eyes on her. Avery noticed herself getting hotter. She turned around to pick up her card; there was already a man holding it. Avery viewed the man, and she could feel her heartbeat becoming faster.

"Thank you." Avery talked with a gentle smile on her face.

The man nodded. Avery turned to face the cashier, and it was her turn to place an order.

"Hey, Ave!" the cashier spoke in an excited voice.

"Hi, Brit," Avery responded. She could feel some of her stress melt away.  Brittney has been one of Avery's best friends since childhood. Brit's aunt was the owner of the cafe. It was because of her that she workes part-time there.

"Your usual?" Brit asked.

"Make it 3 shots of espresso, it's a long day for me," Avery said. Brit laughed and heading off to make her order.

A few minutes later, Brittney returned with an iced latte. Brit held the cup in front of Avery while she was reaching for it. Brit pulled Avery closer and whispered in her ear.

"I saw you blush when you saw that man," Brit smirked.

"Stop! That shit was so embarrassing. Everyone was staring at me. " Avery could feel herself becoming red again.

"Bye, pookie." Brit teased her.

Avery rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out to tease her back. She was off to work now.

While on her way to work, her mind drifted back to the encounter at the cafe. She couldn't help but think about the man's long, fluffy blond hair,  the way her heartbeat started to increase when his icy gray eyes fell on top of her, and she felt a strange flutter of excitement.

I guess the guy was kind of attractive. No, wait, what am I thinking? Aggh, snap out of it, Avery!
