*Evening at the Secret Mansion*

The evening shadows deepened, casting long, dark shapes in the mansion. The opulence of Kate's room did little to alleviate the heavy atmosphere that hung over her. Her room was furnished with luxurious comforts, but tonight, it felt like a gilded cage, and every detail seemed to heighten her sense of imprisonment.

*Matthew's POV*

I stormed into Kate's room, my patience wearing thin. The day's setbacks had pushed me to the brink, and the sight of her tear-streaked face only fueled my anger. My resolve was faltering, but I needed her to be a part of my plan-her presence was supposed to make her father feel the weight of his actions. Yet, the silence from her father's side was maddening.

Matthew: Still sitting there? *I spoke, trying to keep my voice steady despite the fury boiling within me* I thought you'd be more proactive in making your father suffer.

Kate looked up at me, her eyes wide with fear.

Kate: Please, I don't understand why you're doing this. I don't even know why I'm here.

My jaw clenched. I had hoped her presence would stir her father into action, but it seemed to be doing the opposite. I moved closer, grabbing her arm roughly.

Matthew: Your father's actions have caused pain. Keeping you here is supposed to make him feel that. But it seems like you're the only one suffering.

She flinched as I touched her cheek, her body trembling with fear.

Kate: Stop! Please, just let me go. I don't deserve this.

Matthew: You think you're the only one who's suffering here? *I said, my voice dripping with frustration* Your father's sins have affected many, and you're part of the price he has to pay.

Her eyes darted around the room, searching for any sign of escape.

Kate: I just want to go home. Please.

she begged, her voice breaking.

I felt a pang of guilt mixed with my anger. The way she was reacting was starting to chip away at my resolve. I grabbed her by the shoulders, shaking her slightly.

Matthew: This isn't about you; it's about making your father understand the consequences of his actions. But seeing you like this-it's not what I intended.

*Kate's POV*

I sat on the bed, my heart racing as that man stormed into the room. His presence alone was terrifying, and his angry outbursts only heightened my fear. I had no idea why he had taken me or why he was treating me this way. All I knew was that his anger seemed to be aimed at me for something I didn't understand.

Every movement he made made me flinch, my mind racing with thoughts of why this was happening. I had been through so much already-my father's abuse, the humiliation. Now, being held captive by someone who seemed to hate me for reasons unknown was unbearable.

Kate: Please, just let me go *I pleaded, my voice breaking* I don't understand why you're doing this. I haven't done anything to deserve this.

He grabbed me by the shoulders, shaking me. I winced with every touch, expecting him to hit me. His frustration was palpable, and it felt like he was taking it all out on me.

Kate: I can't stay here anymore *I sobbed* I want to get out. I want to be with my aunt.

*end of Kate's POV*

Matthew's rage was evident as he confronted kate. His movements were harsh and aggressive, and his grip on her was unyielding. Kate's fear was a stark contrast to the cold fury of Matthew. Each of her cries seemed to provoke even more anger from him.

The room, despite its comfort, felt like a prison for Kate. Matthew's temper was out of control, and his frustration was making the atmosphere even more oppressive. The opulence of the surroundings did nothing to comfort her as she trembled in fear.

Matthew: YOU'RE PART OF A BIGGER SCHEME.

Matthew shouted, his voice echoing off the walls.

Matthew: Your father has caused so much pain, and this is how I'm making him pay.

Kate's pleas grew more desperate as she clung to the bed.

Kate: I don't understand! Just let me go! Please!

Matthew's internal conflict was evident as he struggled with his anger and growing guilt. His actions were driven by a desire for revenge, yet the sight of Kate's suffering was causing him to question his path.

Matthew: I need to make sure he feels the consequences.

Matthew said, his voice colder now.

Matthew: But this-it's tearing me apart to see you like this.

With a final, frustrated growl, Matthew stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him with such force that it shook the frame. Kate was left alone, sobbing uncontrollably. The sound of the door closing was a harsh reminder of her isolation.

As Matthew walked away, his mind was a whirlwind of anger and confusion. He had initially seen kate as a mere pawn in his scheme, but her vulnerability was starting to break through his hardened exterior. The intensity of his feelings was growing, but he was too blinded by his quest for revenge to fully understand them.

*Later That Night*

The mansion's corridors were quiet, save for the occasional sound of footsteps echoing through the vast halls. Matthew paced back and forth in his study, his mind racing. The confrontation with kate had only intensified his inner turmoil. His plan to make her father suffer seemed to be failing, and the guilt he felt was gnawing at him.

*Matthew's POV*

I slammed the door to my study behind me, the impact reverberating through the room. My anger was still raw, but it was tinged with confusion. Why did Kate's fear and suffering feel so personal? I'd kept her here to manipulate her father, but instead, it was becoming a battleground of my own emotions.

I grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the cabinet, pouring myself a drink with a shaky hand. My reflection in the glass was one of frustration and turmoil. How had it come to this? I had to remind myself that she was just a pawn in my game of revenge. Yet, the image of her terrified eyes haunted me.

As I took a swig from the bottle, the anger inside me twisted into something darker. Was I justifying my actions, or was I losing control? I couldn't afford to let sentimentality cloud my judgment. I needed to stay focused on my goal, but the more I thought about kate, the harder it became to remain resolute.
