🍂 — cool moms and bipolar lockers
𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐀 𝐋𝐎𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 Ivy hated about school, but there was nothing she hated more than when her locker wouldn't open.
She was convinced that her stubborn locker that she's had ever since freshman year was bipolar. It had it's good days where she simply had to put in the code and it would open, and the bad days when she had to lodge her foot against the locker and tug with all her might.
And today was a bad day.
For the last five minutes Ivy had been tugging at her locker, kicking and screaming at it. Everyone who passed by her looked at her weirdly. She only had two minutes left before class had started and she needed her textbook.
"Stupid. Fucking. Locker!" Ivy grit her teeth, banging her fist on the metal. She shook the handle rapidly, her fingers feeling numb. Ivy brought both of her hands to pull and with one swift pull, her locker was finally open.
Ivy shouted happily, slamming her locker open. She quickly got her textbooks out and shoved them into her bag. As she shut her locker she yelped when she noticed Jess right next to her.
"Holy shit!" Ivy placed a hand over her heart. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw him beside her. "Jess, what the hell?"
He laughed. "Didn't mean to scare you there."
Ivy sighed. "I've had a stressful morning."
"Everything okay?" he asked.
Ivy waved him off. "Yeah, my mom just turned down a perfectly good ice cream machine and my locker is bipolar."
Jess raised an eyebrow. His smirk grew as he watched the agitated look on her face. He couldn't help but find the little scrunch in her nose to be adorable.
Ivy watched as he stared at her. She could feel herself shrink under his gaze, her cheeks growing warm. She needed to distract herself from the feeling growing in her chest.
"So, what are you doing here?"
"I'm here to cash in my favor." Jess smiled.
"Okay." Ivy smiled, wondering what he could possibly ask her for. "So soon?"
"Well, it's been a few days and I haven't caused any trouble, have I?" he smirked, and Ivy nodded. "I think that means I deserve a reward, doesn't it?"
"What will it be then?"
Jess took a step closer, smirking down at Ivy. His posture was relaxed, his hands stuffed in his pockets. "Let me take you out on a date."
Ivy stared at him, awestruck. "What?"
"We don't have to call it a date. Let's just hang out."
Ivy was baffled. She knew it didn't have to be a date, but it would feel like a date. And she definitely knew that Jess wanted it to be a date.
"Jess..." she trailed off.
"I won't make things awkward. It'll be fun. I promise." he smiled. Ivy hated how much his smile could make her fold. Whenever he shot a genuine smile her way, it reminded her of all the happy times they had. It made her think that everything was okay between them.
She sighed. "Fine. Let's do it."
His smile grew. "You won't regret it, V."
The bell rang, forcing Ivy and Jess to part ways. As they walked in opposite directions, Jess glanced back just before turning the corner. He caught Ivy's eye and smiled, his gaze lingering. Ivy felt her heart flutter as she returned the smile, her hand lifting in a gentle wave goodbye. The moment stretched, filled with unspoken words and the longing glances.
