The Scars of Her Heart

The silence of scary night...

On a dark night , she was running on a lonely street while looking back and forth as if someone was behind her. She appeared utterly drained, her breath coming in ragged gasps as each step became a struggle. Each of her footfall felt heavy and clumsy with exhaustion.

It was a starry night with a heart piercing silence, no trace of a single human nearby neither any vehicle. Only the sound of insects could be heard along with the distant murmurs of a river somewhere nearby, that broke the stillness.

When she could no more take another step forward, she stopped beside a tree. Leaning against it only for a few seconds, she could already feel rejuvenated. She could hear her own long gasps echoing in the night air, as a reminder of her exhaustion. The wind howled through the trees creating a rustling sound of leaves. Under the Moon's bright light she saw shadows of trees and herself stretching out like dark, menacing figures. All these details only heightened her fear.
Suddenly she heard someone approaching. Her heart pounded furiously against her ribs. She tried to run again but felt as though her feet were glued to the ground. Ardously she had taken only two steps forward when she heard someone calling her name.

"Anna, stop ! I'm not letting you go today." She heard.

It was David, her husband. Her husband who was a vicious devil -- one who did not even feel guilty after killing even his own biological sister and now ruthlessly pursuing Anna's life.

Backstory
Anna Harrison was a simple minded, reserved girl who was content with everything she had in life until her adoptive father married her off to David. Anna worked as a designer and earned enough for herself and her parents to live a comfortable life. Adopted from an orphanage, Anna was loved dearly by her adoptive mother, Mrs. Harrison, who died tragically in an accident two years ago. Anna was driving the car with Mrs Harrison seating beside her, when a truck hit their car and they felt everything around them were blur. Later in hospital Mrs Harrison died while Anna survived the severe wounds of the accident along with the tragedy of her mother's death. Blaming Anna for Mrs Harrison's death, Mr Harrison could no longer bear her presence and decided to marry her off sooner.

Mr Harrison had been friends with Mr. Raven for a long time. Mr Raven had two children: Davis and Mara. Mr Harrison arranged Davis and Anna's marriage against her will. Her life dramatically took a turn when she got married at 25. Once married, Anna's life was never as joyous as it had been before. She was constantly tortured mentally and sometimes even physically by Davis. In fact Davis had made it clear to Anna that he had to marry Anna for his father's sake but he would fulfill all his duties as a husband and try to love her. So, Anna couldn't understand why he wasn't giving even a little bit of effort in their marriage. Although Davis didn't care about Anna, Mr Raven and Mara loved and cared for her very much. In fact Mr Raven even transferred his property to Anna and Mara as he had lost his faith in his own son. After Mr Raven's death Davis started partying day and night skipping work. Mara and Anna were tired of showing him the right direction but he would always ignore them.
One day Mara stumbled upon her brother,Davis, with an unfamiliar girl. Later she confronted him alongside Anna. Davis told them that the girl was his girlfriend and that he was in love with her. He said, " Anna I was about to talk to you about this. Look! I have even brought divorce and property papers for you. Just sign it and we will both be freed from this forced marriage." Mara said, "Aren't you ashamed to ask for a divorce so casually after cheating on your wife?You even want money huh? I feel disgusted to call you my brother." Davis was enraged and slapped Mara with his gigantic hands. She stood there in shock, trembling in fear. He went to Anna and said "Anna you will either divorce me or die today. I can't live with you anymore. I will marry Asli ,her father has already agreed to let me marry her if I deal with you."
Heartbroken and shocked from his betrayal, Anna said, " I knew you were heartless but never thought that you could stoop so low just to be with that bi*ch. You have already ruined me since I married you. Now you think you can just get rid of me like this? In your dreams! "

Davis pushed Anna and went towards the fruit bowl in the center of the room. He grabbed the knife and moved towards Anna saying that he wasnt joking and he would kill her if she doesn't sign the documents. Anna stood her ground refusing to sign the papers so easily and warning him that she could sue him for the violence he had inflicted upon her.
Enraged and angered Davis tried to attack Anna. As Anna tried to run away Davis threw the knife in her direction. In a desperate attempt to protect Anna, Mara threw herself in front of Anna. The knife struck Mara in her neck leaving both Anna and Davis stunned. Davis stood stunned while Anna moved towards Mara, who had died protecting her sister in law. Overwhelmed with grief, Anna glanced at Davis . He was not moved or guilty by his sister's death, in fact a murder in which he was the culprit. Davis tried to approach Anna, she grabbed a flower vase beside her and smashed his head with the vase to protect herself. Blood flew down his head reaching down the ears. While fleeing to escape the danger, Anna glanced back at Davis saw him following her, his eyes filled with ruthless intent to kill her.

Present
"Anna, stop! Iam not letting you go today. " shouted Davis. When she saw Davis, Anna turned and ran desperate to save herself. She continued to run until she reached the end of the road where she could see a vast cliff. Anna stopped. Davis gave a evil smile and approached Anna.
Davis holding a paper between his left hand's index finger and thumb and a pen on the other hand shouted," Sign these papers right now."
Anna turned to look at the back, scared to look at the vast she again turned towards Davis and said, " O.... O..... Okay. I will sign these papers."
She held the pen and papers with her trembling hands, shaking in fear as she tried to steady her grip. She signed the papers and looked at Davis, " Now please let me go, Davis."
Davis let out a sinister laugh sending shivers down Anna's spine. He replied, " No, girl, you're finished. You're are dead in my hands now."

Anna shocked and scared, crying in fear pleaded, " We have been married for one and half years now. Don't you even have any compassion and humanity left to let me go? "
Davis replied," I would have let you go if you had signed the documents earlier. Now having killed my sister and you being the witness, how could I allow you to live anymore? You are destined to die by my hands now."
Tears rolling down her cheeks Anna looked at Davis with pledge thinking he would still show a little bit of compassion towards her. Davis, without a shred of compassion, pushed her towards the edge of the cliff.
Anna, desperately trying to grasp Davis’s hands, lost her footing and fell into the depths of the cliff, tangled with trees and vines. Everything became still, Davis stood there with a evil smiling face as if he had overcome a major obstacle.
