Warning : Gore and violence
Just as the attack was about to hit its eye, the monster turned to face him with narrowed eyes. It may have made the attack deviate from its eye, but it still hit it hard on the snout. The monster stumbled back from the impact, the ball having exploded in his face. As the snowflakes fell to the ground and the mist cloud scattered, it could be seen that the snake's snout had been greatly injured. It was missing scales in many places, the revealed flesh an angry red and bleeding.
It wasn't enough to threaten its life, but it was far enough to anger it greatly.
The snake hissed in a fury, the scales on his neck suddenly standing in a crest with spikes all around it. Adam gulped, feeling his legs weaken slightly at the monster's powerful cry. It was a completely different fight from the fire snake.
"Careful!" Adam heard Evan shouting, his focus coming back on the snake just in time to see the crest inflating and then exploding, sending spikes in his direction. Adam stumbled to lay flat on the roof, rolling around just in time for a spike to impale itself where he had been standing seconds ago. A sizzling sound reached his ears and he saw the roof turn black around the spike, like it was corroded.
Adam swore, hurrying to stand up as he saw the snake slithering toward him out of the corner of his eye.
Just what they needed, one more long-ranged attack to add to the poisonous gas.
The warrior ran away from the snake, keeping in mind that he needed to head toward the chosen exit.
"Here, ugly snake!" Adam heard a loud sound followed by Evan's provocation. He turned back slightly to assess the situation. The giant had seemingly thrown at the snake a corner of a roof he had ripped away. His close-combat skills weren't really useful in situations where the opponent had poisonous gas around it, but his astonishing strength could still be of use.
It succeeded in getting the monster's attention as it turned toward him instead of Adam.
Evan moved in the exit's direction, but as they suspected, the snake was faster, which was why they needed to take turns distracting it to slow it down. Just as the snake's forked tongue came a little too close for comfort to the giant, a giant fireball hit the snake directly behind its head.
The snake cried out as they all heard his scales melting away in a sizzling sound, the smell of burnt and rotten meat entering their nostrils and making them gag slightly. The monster turned with hatred in his eyes toward Blaze who had already started to run in another path that would lead to the exit but take it away from Evan.
Adam prepared his next attack as he thought about where to take the snake. It was a game of quick thinking and reflexes. They needed to divert the monster's attention in three corners, but all the while leading him to the exit. They also needed to be cautious of the villagers and keep the snake away from them.
The fight continued with this pattern until the family finally succeeded in making the snake come closer to the exit.
The tricky part was coming up.
Adam needed to concentrate on the snake's body while Evan and Blaze kept the monster distracted and as still as possible. Then, he would use his magic to make it explode from the inside, controlling the water in its blood to transform it into small ice spikes. It was taxing for the giant and the fox, but it was the only way they had found to fight against a beast with strong scales. Normal attacks from the outside could injure it, but it would never be enough to reach its vital organs, even if they focused on a single patch of broken scales.
The snake was way too above their levels.
Evan and Blaze took formation on each side of the snake, a good amount of meters away from it. They then started attacking it in sync, making the snake confused on which side to head to. Adam anchored his feet on the roof, making sure that his balance was good before focusing all his concentration on the snake. He tapped in in the surging power within his belly, making the sphere swirl faster as he increased all his senses.
Evan clenched his jaw as he saw that Adam had entered his focused state, knowing that it meant that Blaze and him now had to distract the snake for at least two minutes. When Adam was like that, he couldn't react to external forces and was thus vulnerable to attacks. It would take much shorter normally, but it was an estimate based on the snake's huge size. More concentration was needed to win against such a big monster.
If the beasts were sensitive to the mana around them, they could even feel the incoming attack from Adam before he even launched it, making him an ideal target. High grade monsters were normally prone to be sensitive to mana too. Evan and Blaze's roles were important in this strategy.
It wasn't their most liked tactic, with too many risks and variables, but it was the only one they had found against huge snakes.
Evan focused on throwing things at the snake and taunting it. The beast wasn't intelligent, but it was a strong enough rank to know when it was being insulted. It was a good way to get its attention. Blaze, on his side, threw fireballs after fireballs as the monster. He had to make them big enough to injure the snake at least a little to make it feel pain, but he had to make sure that he didn't reach his mana limit too soon.
Evan counted the seconds as their little game continued like that, even himself starting to feel weakness settling in his muscles. It seemed like at this height, the gas wasn't poisonous enough, but it could still affect their motricity.
When he finally reached two minutes, the giant turned toward his master, seeing the latter surrounded by a blue aura. It was the warning sign just before he fired his spell.
Everything was ready to take down the snake.
