In time, or so I'm told
I'm just another soul for sale, oh well
The page is out of print
We are not permanent, we're temporary, temporary
Same old story
What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?
(Song: The Pretender - Foo Fighters)
He had to admit he was a bit intimidated.
Not that he would ever show it to the outside world, but there was this fluttery feeling, which made him feel slightly sick to the stomach and which caused him to feel smaller than usual; it was a feeling he wasn't much used to, not just because he usually towered above other people with his tall stature, but also because he knew how to act in a superior way. He knew how to move and speak, so that his counterpart was always a little surprised by his actions and the things he said, rarely giving them the opportunity to intimidate him in return.
'Always keep the upper hand' that was his credo, because the second you lost that, you would be run over and left to die in the miserable cesspit, that the world had pushed you into. But now that he stood in the entrance hall, dragged out of his comfort zone, Finn could only hope, that no one saw his inner struggles.
The place he found himself in was ridiculously huge and just the entrance was as big as his entire flat; there were two staircases, one on each side, both leading up to the same hallway a floor higher, that looked liked a balcony from the ground floor that he stood in. In front of him, meticulously placed in the centre of the room, stood a round table with an opulent orchid placed on it, that looked too perfect to be real in his opinion, and above that whole arrangement hang the biggest lamp that he had ever seen in real life, which consisted of dozens of glass vessels that reminded him of raindrops and which seemed to fall miraculously from the ceiling down to the flower placed on the table.
Despite all the perfection, the neatness, and the brightness, which came in through the huge windows next to the entrance door and which reflected on the white tiles and the white interior, this place had a melancholy to it; it seemed just too perfect and clean, missing any personal touch. Not knowing what he should do with himself and to erase some of that nervousness that he was foolishly feeling, he walked the remaining meters up to the table and let his fingers absent-mindedly run over the snow-white blossoms of the orchid, surprised to find out that the flower was actually a real one.
"I'm sorry, that I kept you waiting.", the female voice tore him out of his thoughts and caused him to rip off the blossom that he had held between his fingers, when his whole body turned to the person at the top of the staircase.
All the way from his place up to this ridiculously large estate in Beverly Hills he had tried to prepare himself for this moment and considering the bad traffic in LA and the fact that he had not been driving himself (a driver had picked him up), he had had enough time for that. But nothing could have prepared him for the sight that met his eyes:
Millie was slowly descending the stairs, careful as to not step on her long summer dress that was swirling delicately around her angles. It had small flowers printed on a blush base colour, that contrasted with her toned skin, which was perfectly visible for him on her exposed décolletage and the bare arms, as the thin straps holding the dress were not hiding anything from his view. But the most mesmerizing part of this whole vision was her brown hair that fell in soft waves down her shoulders.
He suddenly realized, that the two times in which he had actually met Mills, she had been wearing her hair up in a ponytail and though the long strands running through his fingers had been part of his unfulfilled fantasies, it was something else entirely to see her like this in real life.
She was like a goddess, tempting him in the most torturous ways. "Holy fuck!", he breathed out between gritted teeth.
