Niki's POV:
After I said bye to Eun Ae, I felt my anger boiling inside me. How could she choose to hang out with Jake over me? As I stormed into my dorm room, Jay looked up, puzzled.
"Niki, are you okay? What happened?" he asked.
I couldn't hold it in. "WHAT HAPPENED WAS JAKE ASKED EUN AE TO HANG OUT TOMORROW, AND WHEN I ASKED HER TO HANG OUT, SHE SAID SHE WAS ALREADY HANGING OUT WITH JAKE!" I shouted.
Jay's eyes widened in shock. "Relax, Niki. It's okay," he said, trying to calm me down. "Jake probably doesn't like Eun Ae like that. They're just friends. Breathe, Niki."
I tried to calm down, but the thought of them together was still gnawing at me. Taking Jay's advice, I headed to the shower, hoping the hot water would help me relax. It did, at least a little. I went to bed, my mind still buzzing with frustration.
The next morning, my alarm woke me at 10:00 am. I was surprised at how long I had slept; I must have been more exhausted than I realized. When I stepped out of my room, I found Jay and Jake talking. My anger flared up again at the sight of Jake.
Jay noticed my expression. "Hey Niki, Jake came here to ask if you want to hang out with him and Eun Ae today."
I was shocked. "What?"
Jake stepped forward. "Eun Ae and I were going to hang out, and she mentioned that you came to her dorm to ask to hang out. She felt bad about saying no to you, so she thought it would be a good idea for all three of us to hang out together."
I was taken aback. Eun Ae felt bad for me? I nodded, trying to hide my surprise. "Sure, I'll come," I said, quickly retreating to my room to choose an outfit. I wanted to look perfect for Eun Ae. I chose a black tee, a black leather motorcycle jacket, loose-fitting dark-wash jeans, white sneakers, and a silver chain necklace. When I stepped out, Jay gave me a knowing smirk. I ignored him, focusing on the day ahead.
Jake led the way to the café where we were meeting Eun Ae. I couldn't stop thinking about how she had invited me, even though it was supposed to be her day with Jake. When we arrived, I saw her standing there, looking stunning in a sandy-colored maxi skirt, a white shirred cuff lantern sleeve blouse, and crisscross open-toe ankle strap sandals. Her hair was down, framing her face perfectly. I couldn't take my eyes off her.
"Hey guys! How are you?" she greeted us with a bright smile.
"Good," Jake replied, smiling back at her.
"Good too," I managed to say. "And thanks for inviting me."
"You're welcome," she said, smiling at me. There was something in her smile that made my insides twist in a way I'd never felt before.
As we walked into the café and found a table, I couldn't shake the feeling inside me. It was strange and unsettling, yet oddly comforting.
Did I like her that much? Enough that her mere presence made me feel things I'd never felt before?
I glanced at Eun Ae again, catching her eye for a moment before looking away. I couldn't deny it any longer.
There was something about her that was different, something that drew me to her in a way I couldn't explain.
