(MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ROMEO AND JULIET!!!!)

Prompt: Who is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet?

Murder Mystery

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a Shakesperean tragedy about two lovers with a plan that goes horribly wrong. Juliet is supposed to marry a man named Paris, but loves Romeo and marries him instead. Then something tragic happens to Juliet and her lover. When the tragic part of the play comes about, some believe Friar John is responsible for it: the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Because he did not give Romeo the message about Friar Lawrence's plan, Romeo and Juliet die with each other.

First of all, Friar John is a poor messenger. He then was stopped by illness and infection. An example of him being a delayed messenger is, "I could not send it –here it is again–" (Shakespeare 256). He could not "get a messenger to bring it thee" (Shakespeare 256). Illness and infection were the other significant factors of his delayed messaging to Romeo. "So fearful were they of infection" (Shakespeare 256). Infection is what others feared, so Friar John was to be quarantined along with another. They thought he had the illness too. They also "[s]ealed up the doors and would not let us forth" (Shakespeare 256). While Friar John had his reasons to delay, he still committed to Romeo and Juliet's deaths.

To sum it all up, Friar John is to blame for Romeo and Juliet's deaths because he could not get Friar Lawrence's message to Romeo. He could not get it across because of infections, illnesses, quarantines, and terrible messaging/messengers. Something that could be learned is to talk or message people when told, or it will be too late to tell them.
