What You Should Know Before Buying: Cats
Did you know a cat was used for an experiment by Princeton Professor Ernest Glen Wever and his assistant, Charles William Brayin, in 1929? Cats are adorable, lovable creatures that live in households. They can be as sweet as cake or as rude as a critic. Sometimes, they claw at your feet, but that does not stop them from coming up on the couch to cuddle. Cats are a domestic species of small carnivorous mammals. It's usually referred to as a house cat. When domesticated, its lifespan is about 12–18 years. They are also like dogs in a way. The reasons for getting a cat are that they can reduce anxiety, they sleep a lot, some are hypoallergenic, and they are great companions.
Cats have habits like we humans do; except, their routines are more self-centered. They groom themselves and their offspring to get all of the dander, fluff, and fur off of them. They shed heavily, so this is enjoyable for them.
Cats sleep for about 12-16 hours every day. They need this energy to bounce around, especially if they are kittens or playful cats. As they get older, they will start sleeping more until it seems they are sleeping forever. Their food affects their sleep cycles and their energy. Stores usually carry cat food that is approximately 500 calories (as much as a cat needs daily).
Some people are allergic to cats, react to certain parts of a cat, some people react to the saliva, the dander, or the fur. A few cats are hypoallergenic, so even people with allergies can own a cat or two (you might want to get two because the first one could get lonely). Luckily, certain companies have developed allergy medicines like Benadryl and Epi-Pens for people with allergies to cats of any breed.
In conclusion, cats are quite the companions. They can be annoying sometimes, but are always one of the optimum companions one could have. Some can harm (allergies), but some are hypoallergenic. Anyone can own a cat with the proper education on cats! The next time you think about getting a cat, refer back to this to see if you want to finalize getting yourself a cat.
(I got a comment on this from my teacher after presenting this saying he approved, as a cat owner :3)
