"He's... He can't be, I promised..."

"Lizzie, please just-"

Lizzie stood in disbelief. Her brother. The one she'd known her entire life... Gone. No. Not gone. Just... Missing for a little bit. He'd show up soon.

"I know it's hard on you, but we have to get out of here."

"I- I promised her-" Lizzie choked out, trembling slightly as her nails dug into her wrists. "I promised Mom I'd keep him safe."

Grian went to rub a hand along her back and squawked with surprise as she slapped the hand away.

"We've retreated too many times. I'm going to end this. I'm going to fix it, make everyone better... Because that's what Jimmy would've wanted." Her voice strained with the last few words. She sniffled and wiped away her tears. 

"Lizzie, we came here to look for Bdubs-" Etho started, but he was cut off.

"-and we instead lost someone else! I'm tired of this, I'm tired of losing. You can all stay here, or go back to the school, I don't care. I'm going to stop this today." She pushed past the many bushes and vines and tendrils of skulk, leaving her group behind her.

"Oh, look at that. Another guest." Lizzie growled. She knew that voice all too well.

"Skulk! Show yourself! I'm not afraid anymore of what you've done to my friends or my brother."

A figure draped in skulk like tight clothing dropped down from the trees above, familiar purple and white wings splaying out as she landed. The skulk had done something to Pearl.

"I suppose I could have some fun with my new toy." Lizzie readied her fists and narrowed her eyes.

The skulk giggled, setting a ring of purple fire around them. "You know you can't hurt me. You would never hurt one of your dearest friends, would y-" she started coughing, wheezing and gasping in an attempt to regain the ability to breathe as Lizzie lashed out and smacked her across the neck.

"Never underestimate me." Lizzie grinned. The fight was going her way already. She kicked at the skulk's ribs, making them unsteady on their feet.

"S- stupid human body!" The skulk cried, clutching their side and dodging out of the way of another kick as they finally caught their breath.

Lizzie ran full-force at the skulk and body chucked them dangerously close to the fire. She calmly walked up to them and grabbed them by the neck of their shirt, holding them over the fire.

"W-w-wait! Lizzie, it's me!" The skulk near Pearl's eyes fell away enough for them to be visible. They were wide, scared, and a different colour then they should be. Pearl still sounded possessed, there was a high possibility of the skulk pretending...

"For real! Don't hurt me! Please!" Lizzie's eyes narrowed once more.

"Oh yeah? Say something kids would understand these days." She challenged.

"Uh..." Pearl seemed to search her mind for any answers. "S-skibidi toilet?" She cringed, visibly embarrassed.

Lizzie dropped her into the fire and dusted off her hands. The skulk screamed with pain and fury, writhing and struggling.

"They hurt my brother," she hissed.

The skulk burned away quicker and quicker, and the fire began to burn Pearl's flesh.

Lizzie watched through narrowed eyes until Pearl fell limp and stopped screeching. Lizzie grabbed Pearl's arm and yanked her up as the fire began to die.

Now she just had to find the rest of them.
