Chapter 1: I still think he walked through the wall.
He just climbed through the wall. Or at least that was the theory that was running through my brain as I stared at the hooded person in front of me. Ok, so maybe technically, he didn’t exactly climb through the wall, it was more like he was in my closet when I opened it… I had initially opened my closet to hide in it.
“Erm… hello?” I said to him, knowing that what I was doing could be entirely wrong and could get me killed seeing as he could very well be a stalker or a stranger who was out to rob me and had somehow infiltrated my house in order to do so. But I had overrode the stranger – robber theory in the first five seconds upon seeing him because I had noticed his interesting way of dressing. (I am being polite because said person is now looking over my shoulder and he should know that it is in fact rude and no, it is inter-dimensional culture.)
He was wearing a hooded trench with many pockets that concealed most of his figure. He also wore a belt that had two very dangerous looking blades that I had never seen before. His shoes looked tough and included the mechanism usually seen on rollerblades. He carried a machine that was definitely not an I-touch. He looked rugged as if he travelled a lot.
He just looked back at me weirdly, “I was obviously not prepared for this.”
I happily returned a confused stare, “Prepared?”
He sighed and looked at his machine, “Did I get the wrong girl again? But this one doesn’t scream… Ugh.. Asians… you all look alike!”
I blinked, “Thanks for noticing. I also hope that the fact that you are standing in my closet does not escape your seemingly trained eye.”
He glared at me through the machine (It was see-through.), “Shut up.”
I glared back as the machine spoke, “Affirmative. Subject is confirmed.”
I saw the hint of a tiny relieved smile on his face, “I hate to ruin the moment but … subject? And I really, really hope I am being obvious enough this time.”
He blinked, “Oh, I knew from your first look. I just needed to make sure.”
I nodded understandingly (I am told it’s the best move particularly when you don’t understand.), “And now that you have made sure… what’s the next step?”
“Hello there person-who-did-not-scream-upon-seeing-a -weird-guy-in-your-closet, I am Karlo and I come in peace.”
I gave him a bored look, “Oh don’t let me stop you. Go on.”
He rolled his eyes, “You have probably guessed that I am not from this world.”
“Correct.”
“And that means that there is another world.”
“Yep.”
“Why are you not screaming? The others did.”
I laughed, “Because I sort of had a theory about that. And also we have met before, vaguely.”
He nodded, “So you do remember.”
I smiled, “I have a good memory when it comes to people, real or unreal… or theoretically real.”
He looked at his machine again, “Good, that saves me a lot of explaining.”
“No, it doesn’t. You still have to explain how you exist, how you got into my closet, why you are in my room, and why you have disturbed the lives of so many other Asian girls including me.”
He snorted, “Irritating as usual.”
I smiled, “So… tell me all the answers.”
“Ok. I come from a different world. You can live in both at the same time, crossing worlds at will…Or at least, you are supposed to be able to. At the moment, you’re untrained so you only visit when you dream. I can only live in one at a time but I can cross over at will. At the moment now, in my world, something weird is going on. We don’t know what it is exactly and we want to find out and for that we need you. So yeah… here I am. Come with?”
