Me and my younger sister Tiana were doing our regular routine as I washed dishes and she served plates of delicious food.
When we were young we loved to cook, mama always made sure we knew exactly what we was doing with all those spices. Tiana always been a little better at it than me but I ain't no perfectionist.
"Have y'all seen todays news paper!!?" Charlotte came rushing in to our restaurant. Luckily it was still early so there weren't too many customers to look at her crazy.
"Charlotte!" I shrieked dropping everything I was doing as I came out from the back and hugged her.
"Oh y/n ..you got a little water on me sugar"
"I'm sorry I'm just so happy to see ya!" I said squeezing her tighter.
Tiana chuckled and also hugged Charlotte after I let her go.
"Oh you two! You guys gotta see! PRINCE NAVEEN IS COMING TO NEW ORLEANS!" She said with a shriek.
I laughed "but Charlotte you've already got your prince."
"Not for me silly, for you!!"
My heart skipped a beat at the thought of getting to marry a Prince.
"Oh- no, Im no royalty! That's just not my style."
"Oh nonsense, we are gonna get you that Prince! He'll be here tonight!."
"NO! Charlotte! He'll see me working! No wealthy Prince will want to date a waitress, he might as well date his maid for that matter!"
"Oh don't mind that, he's not so perfect himself! But we will need to give you a make over darlin. Tiana baby, you think you can run the place by yourself for a couple hours?"
"I'll be fine love"
Charlotte shrieked and dragged me out of there so fast.As Charlotte whisked me away in a whirlwind of excitement, I found myself torn between the thrill of meeting a prince and the reality of my everyday life. Charlotte insisted on a makeover, and before I knew it, I was seated in a salon, surrounded by stylists and makeup artists.
"Charlotte this Is gonna take a while and Tiana is running the place on her own!"
"Don't you worry about her I'll have daddy send in some help!"
"Oh! We don't have the money to pay extra employees!"
"You're not paying for them sugar"
Mama's voice echoed in my mind, reminding me of the responsibilities back at the restaurant. But Charlotte drowned out the concerns, and soon, I was in a glamorous outfit for royalty.
I looked at myself in the mirror and my hair was beautiful and the dress they made me wear was gorgeous. I admired myself.Later that night..
The sun set, Charlotte practically dragged me back to the restaurant. My heart raced as I peeked through the curtains, spotting Prince Naveen elegantly entering the establishment.
"Remember, darling, act like the queen you are," Charlotte whispered, giving me a final pat on the back before disappearing into the bustling kitchen.
As I approached Prince Naveen's table, the clattering of dishes and the aroma of spices filled the air. Trying to maintain composure, I greeted him with a warm smile.
"Good evening, Your Highness. Welcome to our humble restaurant," I said, feeling a strange mix of nervousness and excitement.
Prince Naveen's eyes sparkled with genuine interest as he looked up from the menu. His charming smile widened, making my heart flutter.
"No need for the fancy titles, ehhh Just call me Naveen.""Very well then, Naveen how can I be of assistance tonight?"
"Can the pretty lad sit with me, maybe join me for little something to eat. My treat of course."
"How sweet" I said turning red.
I sat down with him."What business does a pretty lady like you have here?" He said
"Me and my sister own the place"
"This?" He said looking around
"Oh- I know it's not much now but it will be soon."
"And what will it be?" He asked curiously
"Oh-" I smiled "theres gonna be big neon lights outside that spell my sisters name and then inside is going to be tables, tables better than these of course- menus will vary and customers will come from everywhere, my sisters gonna love it!"
Naveen was silent as he watched me talk and when I was done he smiled at me. "That's beautiful, and the way you speak about it is adorable, maybe I can help you out, no?"
Prince Naveen reached into his pocket, pulling out a substantial wad of cash. He held it out to me with a charming smile.
"Consider this a token of appreciation for this wonderful evening Im having with you and the promise of dreams coming true," he said, the bills neatly folded in his hand.
I hesitated, my sense of pride conflicting with the generous gesture.
"Oh, Naveen, I appreciate the sentiment, but we can't accept this. We're determined to make our own way."Naveen's expression softened, and he insisted;
"My dear, think of it as an investment in your dreams. Your restaurant holds a unique charm, and I want to be a part of seeing it flourish."Despite my hesitation, he gently placed the cash on the table. "Take it, for the sake of the dreams you spoke so passionately about."
I bit my lip, torn between gratitude and independence. "I can't..."
Naveen leaned in, a playful glint in his eyes. "Now, don't make it difficult for a prince, especially one who insists on supporting a beautiful entrepreneur. Consider it a gift from a friend."With a sigh and a smile, I finally accepted the wad of cash. "Thank you, Naveen. I'll make sure it contributes to our dreams."
He grinned, satisfied. "Thank you""I'll be right back"
I went to take the cash back, and I wanted to show Tiana but she was no where to be found.. I looked around and all I saw were Charlottes employees that she brought in- where the hell is my sister?- I hid the cash in our break room in my purse behind the kitchen and came back out to the Prince.
As Prince Naveen stood up, he extended his hand towards me, pulling me in by the waist with a confident yet gentle gesture. My heart raced as his touch sent shivers down my spine. With a charming grin, he spoke, "You disappeared for a moment there. I was starting to think you wouldn't come back."
I couldn't help but blush, feeling a rush of excitement and nervousness. "I couldn't resist the chance to thank you properly, Prince Naveen." I said trying to flirt with him
He chuckled, his eyes locking onto mine. "No need for formalities, my love. I told you, just call me Naveen."
His nickname made me stammer, "You—you're very handsome, Naveen."
He responded with a playful smirk, "And you, my dear, are enchanting. I have to say, meeting you has been the highlight of my evening."
As we continued chatting, he expressed his desire to see me again. "I'd love the pleasure of your company once more. How about tomorrow? Same time, same place?"
Flustered, I agreed, "Yes, I'd like that."
Naveen, being the charming flirt, leaned in slightly. "Before I go, may I ask for your consent for a farewell kiss?" His request was accompanied by a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Blushing even more, I nodded, and he planted a soft, lingering kiss on my cheek. "Until tomorrow, my love," he whispered, making a promise to return.
As Prince Naveen left, I stood there, feeling a whirlwind of emotions.
