"you missed out last night, essie," courtney reach over to the girl sitting across from her and placed both her hands on her shoulders and gently shook her for a few seconds.
"it was so much fun," hallie chimed in while taking a seat at the cafe table, then following with a small chuckle as a memory from the night appeared in her mind. "court got a little too drunk and accidentally made out with the wrong girl-"
"stop!" she quickly exclaimed. "oh my god. don't remind me," she her words faded into playful groans as he tone slightly raised. "and she wasn't even gay- it was so awkward."
"wrong girl compared to who..?" estelle softly furrowed.
"another girl i meet out," courtney promptly answered. "she thought the whole thing was funny."
"mh.."
estelle turned her attention to the staff as she brought both her's and hallie's drink order over to the table — the other two already having theirs since they arrived a little sooner than them.
"and how was your night?" florence questioned the slightly younger one beside herself, who subtly fiddling with her fingers. "did you finish reading icebreaker?"
"no, not yet," she shook her head. "i got distracted.."
"distracted by what?" courtney slightly dragged her words in excitement. "by who.. maybe..?
".. that app you girls got me to download," she somewhat mumbled as he gaze moved away from them.
"oh my god. which one?!" hallie flicked her head towards the girl. "tinder or hinge?"
"tinder.."
"oh did you bring those icebreaker acts to real life?" florence teased.
"no," she giggled. "i matched with his guy though-"
"show!" courtney cut her off.
"i don't know.." she mumbled as she grabbed her phone out of her bag. "i kinda feel like he's a catfish.. the photos just don't seem as.. candid.. as everyone else's profiles.."
"let us be the judge of that," hallie held her hand out for the phone.
"i kinda hope he isn't a catfish.." she said as she opened the app and then clicked on the guy's profile, handing it over to her friends. "he's like one of the few i've managed to have a conversation keep going.."
"zach.. he's kinda fine.." she commented as she clicked through the profile. "won't lie- i won't steal your man, don't worry, not my type."

"i don't know girl.." courtney hummed as she clicked through the photos. "it's pretty believable, they seem to all be the same guy- the third one seems like it could've been taken from pinterest but also the last one sorta makes it seem real.."
"i get what you mean by it seems more professional than other guys," hallie added.
"he also lives in la so it kinda adds up," estelle explained — although she had doubts, she also wanted to just believe for moment.
"can i see it?" florence requested the girl's phone, courtney handing it over to her right away. "lookin' for whatever you are.. girl do you even know what you're looking for?"
"i don't know," she shrugged, grabbing her phone back as it was handed to her. "i just want to see where things go.."
"is he in phoenix?" hallie questioned, watching the girl shake her head. "is he aware you're not in la?"
"yeah," she quietly chuckled, a smile forming as she thought back to the first conversation. "the like second thing he said was 'girl why are you a million miles away'."
"what else did he say?"
"oh um.. asked when i'd be in la and like if i visit often.."
"he kind of gives off the wanting hookups vibes," courtney voiced her opinion. "the like whatever you want and the wink emoji- and especially the guitar pic, showing off his hands and muscles.. setting the desperate ones up for the 'choke me', 'what else do those finger do' comments.."
"he asked what i wanted.. so i told him that i wasn't really sure but that i don't think i'm made for hookup and forget.." she admitted. "then he was like oh cool so what are you into."
"did you talk much after that?"
"mhm," she nodded, slipping her phone back into her bag so her full attention could be on her friends. "we were texting for like an hour, till like eleven when i told him i was going to sleep- but i didn't end up sleep for like an hour cause i couldn't stop thinking about him.."
"ask him for his instagram," florence suggested, wanting to see her friend in love like she knew she wanted. "that's the best way to prove if they're a catfish or not. especially if he does music like he'd need to have a few thousand followers for sure."
"i- i will.. if it comes up.."
"no," hallie quickly disagreed. "stop waiting for guys to message you first. guys are hopeless. sometimes you gotta be the one to initiate the conversation."
"okay," she nodded.
".. what are you waiting for?" courtney asked. "get that phone back out and text him."
"right now?"
"yeah," she spoke in a duh tone. "have you spoke this morning?"
"we haven't since last night.."
"ask him what he's up to today then."
".. will it make me seem desperate?" estelle glanced around the group.
"it's a question!" hallie sighed. "asking questions isn't desperation. it's getting to know them, conversation starters."
"okay.. okay.. i'll message him," she caved, pulling her phone back out. "but let me text him in peace, no pressuring me cause it stresses me out."
"okay, deal"
