It's the start of the summer, we have David. The 11 year old. David: "Mom, are my pancakes done?" "Sweetie, just wait." Mom said while flipping the pan. 2 minutes later. "These pancakes are BUSSIN!" "hm" responded mom. "I said bussin." "What's that?" Mom said. "Well, It's a... Don't worry about it, mom. I just wanna enjoy dis buss- oh, uhm. Good pancakes." "Well, okay..." Mom responded. After David's mom and David ate the pancakes. "Hey David" "Huh?" responded David. "Why are you on your computer." David says "PC mom. And what do you mean why am I on my computer?" "David, you know." "No, I don't." David responded. "David, it's school time tomorrow!" "Huh?" "You heard me!" Mom said. Yesterday turns into tomorrow, which summer is also over. Mom says "Wakey Wakey." "Huh, HUH! what happened?" David responded. Mom says "Don't play delusional with me. You know school is today." "wait what? WAIT WHAT? I DIDN'T KNOW!" "Didn't I just say stop playing delusional with me? I told you yesterday!" Mom responded. "Ohhhhhh. You did?" "Yes, I did, David." "OHHHH, makes sense." David says. Walking in school, David felt a sense of embarrassment. Like he felt like he forgot something, Or something has to do with him. In class. David raises his hand. Ms. Jade "Hm David?" "Can I use the bathroom?" "Sure." responded Jade. David walks to the school bathroom. He walks into one of the stalls and sees something strange. It's a baby bat. "Oh. Hey there lil guy!" David says. David grabs the bat and puts him outside of the bathroom stall so he could do his stuff. He grabs the bat after, and hides it in his backpack. Leaving a crack open for oxygen. "I'm back Ms. Jade" David says. "Good." Coming back home. David creeps into the house. But the floor creaks. And David's mom realized it. "Hey David. Anything you learnt. Or happened at school today?" "Uhhh... Well. I learnt how volcanoes work." David says. "Good, Good" His mom says while looking at David's slightly opened backpack. "David, has your backpack been opened like that all day?" "Ohhh that. No mom. It's, Uhh..." David says. David's mom looks at how suspicious David's facial expressions are. "David, do you have anything to tell me that you don't want to explain what happened at school today, I should know, because when I was your age. I used to hide stuff, including rumors around my mom every time I went to school." "Mom, it's not like tha- well.. Never min-" "No, no, no, David. It's okay, tell me anything, I'm here." "Uhm..."(NEW!) David "Well, I.. Haven't done anything" he said with confidence. "You sure because you look, uh.. Well. Strange." Mom says. "Nah. NO I DON'T. No, no, no. I'm just... Uh. Can I just go to my room?" "Well, uh.. Suuuure. But! Meet me in my room in about. Uhhh. 2 minutes. We need to talk" At that moment she said that. It felt as almost a vine boom sound effect happened in my brain. "Oh, oh. Okay mom." David goes into his room. "Okay, uhhh. Batty. We need to hide you under my bed, orrrr in my bathro- no, under my bed is fine." David hides the baby bat under his bed. He decides to go to his mom, but hesitated. "What if she'll say what am I hiding. Or she knows. Or. Or. Or. She, uhhh. Knows about my diary. Oh wait, I don't have one." "Fine, I'll go in." "Heyyy!" Mom says. "Hey mom." "Hey. So, wanna talk about this. Uh. Whatever. That is" Mom says. David says "Well mom. I've heard that I have. Uhh. Oh I'm. Uhhh. Delusional!"
"D- Delusional?" "Yes! Delusional" I said. "Listen, I know any symptoms, or anything you have. I've had you 12 years ago, boy. You should know your age." "Wait, you know any symptoms that I have. Even today?" I said. "Well, yes. I have pow- I mean. I just know sweetie. Now, tell me what is going on here." "Fine, you promise you won't freak out." "NO I mean, no sweetie." Mom says. "Ok... I. Brought home a. Uhhh. Ba-" "OH MY GOD YOU BROUGHT HOME A BAT! I NEVER KNOW MY BABY WAS A SERIAL KILL-" "MOM! stop! Listen... It's an animal type ba-" "OH MY GOD MY BABY BROUGHT HOME THOSE MENACE TO SOCIETY TYPE ANIMALS!" Mom says. "MAAAM! Stop! LISTEN! He's just a baby. It's friendly." "But don't you know what that- THING brings to this house" mom says. "What?" "FLEES, BUGS, DISEASES, CHICKEN POX, COVID 30, CANCER" "MAMA! you're speaking total nonsense! I found it from the school bathro-" "You found it from where?" "The school bathro-" "FROM FU****G WHERE?" Mom says. "Well, you heard me. The school bathro-" "No, no, no, no, Don't talk to me...... Did you even clean it?" "........" "David?" "........" "DAVID!" "Huh! What?!" "I'm speaking to you" "But you told me not to talk to you" David's mom looked at him crazy. Like he just dropped the most ferocious fart. "David... Just go to your room... I don't give two sh**s about dat BAT. Ugh!" "Okay! Bet." David walks to his room. In his room, David sits on his bed, feeling relieved but anxious. His mom comes in a few minutes later and says, "David, I'm sorry if I got a bit upset earlier. I was just worried. But what matters is that you're okay." David smiles. "I know, Mom. I'm sorry for all this. I just wanted to help a little friend." Mom gives David a hug and says, "I appreciate that, but next time, make sure you clean up anything you bring home, okay?" David nods. "Yes, Mom. I promise I will."With a mix of relief and love, David and his mom sit together in his room, hoping that summer will come around again soon but with a new understanding that family will always be there to work through things together.
