    The morning of the fifth day after she appeared in the world of Death Note, (Y/N) stumbled out of bed groggily after turning off her alarm, yawning and stretching as she maneuvered toward the bathroom to wash her face, brush her hair, and slide on her uniform. Jogging downstairs after taking a glance at the time, she grabbed a piece of toast and slipped on her shoes before hurrying outside, stopping immediately in her tracks when realizing that someone—and something—was waiting for her.

    Light turned around with a wave.

    The tall and slouching Shinigami that went by the name of Ryuk also turned with the boy, he having a shock of black hair, pale—almost grey—skin, long arms that ended in sharp talons, and donning an all black suit with fur around his waist and shoulders, chains around it. What was most frightening about Ryuk, though, was his face: his lips were stretched into a smile that revealed sharp teeth while his yellow eyes glowed dangerously in the light.

    He was the epitome of a God of Death.

    "Good morning, (L/N)-san," Light greeted politely, not bothered at all about the floating God behind him.

    "Good morning, Yagami-san," (Y/N) returned his greeting, trying very hard not to stare at Ryuk and wondering if touching the piece of the Death Note after Light was such a good idea after all.

    If anything, she knew that if Light suspected her of being able to see Ryuk, then he'd realize that she would be able to make the connection that he was Kira—or will be Kira, as he wasn't donned the name just yet. But with that suspicion, though, all form of relationship that they had built would be broken, and Light would deem it fit that he would have no choice but to end her life at the stroke of his pen.

    If that were to happen...

    I wonder where I'll end up next? Or, will I be permanently dead?

    The thought both worried and excited her.

    Sliding her gaze to the corner of her eye, (Y/N) observed Light and the floating God of Death behind him, wondering just why he was going to such lengths to try and befriend her. Of course, to blind her to the truth that he was a serial killer, but even if he didn't put up this facade with her, wouldn't it have just been easier for him to disregard her existence altogether?

    She tilted her head.

    Then... does he actually trust me and see me as a friend? Or is he planning on using me?

    "Yagami-san, what happened to that notebook I found?" She questioned casually, breaking the once comfortable silence between them. "It looked quite odd. If I remember correctly, it had the words 'Death Note' written on the cover. Was it a joke?"

    She observed his reaction, but of course, his expression remained calm; not giving a hint at all to what he was thinking.

    "No, I didn't find the owner," he answered lightly and smoothly, not once stuttering or giving a slip of tongue. "It was just a normal notebook, so I gave it to the front office."

    (Y/N)'s brow raised, "Is that so?"

    "Yes, it was rather anticlimactic, if you ask me."

    "Lying to your friend now? That isn't very nice," Ryuk cackled, voicing the girl's thoughts exactly.

    The two continued chatting like that before arriving at school and having to split off to go their separate ways. (Y/N) was now currently listening to the teacher lecture about the history of Japan, and she realized just how boring it was when one knew everything that they were being taught. She realized quite early on that her mind was like a computer, something that had happened to her when she was dropped into the world of Death Note—she could remember anything that she had seen, she could solve complicated problems in her mind easily, and she was more observant than before.

    It was an amazing talent.

    But one that made her somewhat lackluster.

    I guess I sympathize with Light.

    This kind of life is so boring, doing the same thing on repeat every day. Though, even with all of my boredom, I wouldn't try to become a god and kill multiple people.

    I guess that's just Light.

    She propped her head up with her hand and glanced out the window, pondering over what her next course of action should be if she truly wanted to become involved in the plot. She had already befriended Light to some degree, but she didn't think too much far ahead since the plot had already begun when she awoke in that world.

    She tapped her finger rhythmically.

    To be honest, I don't hate Light.

    The power he possesses is what is wrong since when he lost his memories, he agreed that what Kira—himself—was doing, was wrong.

    He already has the Death Note.

    I merely wanted him to have it so L would come into the scene, but...

    What of Misa?

    She is what is the downfall of L.

    How do I subtract her from the equation? I assume Light's already killed the guy that killed her parents...

    And then there's Rem.

    Groaning silently and resting her head on the desk, (Y/N) ran through every troubling scenario in her mind before pausing and sitting up straighter as she felt a literal lightbulb shine over her head. Misa was working as a model, so if she found out where her next shoot would be, she could find her Death Note before Light's commencement as Kira.

    Easy.

    Glancing at the clock, the girl made a mental note to tune into the news as soon as the bell rang, something that didn't happen until a few hours later. Instantly rushing out the door, she had just stepped outside when Light fell into step beside her.

    "(L/N)-san... were you not going to wait for me? I thought we were friends?" He gave a lighthearted tease. "Do you have somewhere else to be?

    "Ah... I just need to run a couple errands today, that's all," she shrugged, the lies rolling smoothly off her tongue. "Sorry for not telling you in advance... and sorry for not being able to walk home with you today, either."

    "It's fine," Light shook his head, sliding one hand in his pocket while the other lifted in a brief wave. "I'll see you later then, bye."

    "Yeah, bye," (Y/N) smiled before turning to walk in the opposite direction.

    I need to get that notebook.

    It's probably just that natural savior's complex talking, but I can't let them die.

    I can't.
