When (Y/N) woke up that next morning, she didn't know why, but a particular sense of dread soon came over her. And when entering the school grounds of To-Oh with Light, she instantly knew why upon sight of Misa casually talking with fans of hers while a camera crew and workers set up what looked to be a set for her modeling career.

She froze.

Ah, shit.

Does this world really not want to change?

What da fack!?

"(Y/N)?" Light frowned down at her as he readjusted his bag that he had currently hanging off of one shoulder, staring at her with a type of worry reflected in his dark eyes. "Something wrong?"

"No... let's just go away from here," she said as she grabbed his arm and tried to tug him away from Misa, slightly panicking since she knew that the girl would be able to pick Light out of the crowd as Kira since she had the eyes—she had halved her life again since criminals whose names weren't broadcasted kept dying—and would not be able to see his lifespan as another holder of the Death Note.

"Why?" The boy hummed as he turned towards where Misa was still chatting with her fans. "Do you not like that girl?"

    Should I kill her?

"No!" (Y/N) immediately disrupted the thought she knew he was having—she knew that look on his face when he thought of killing someone. "It's just... she's so beautiful I'm worried you've now fallen for her just from seeing her."

"Do you think I'm that vain?" He smirked.

    She blinked.

    "Yes."

"I'm wounded," Light placed his hand on his chest where his heart was, that sky smirk still present on his lips as he gazed at (Y/N) with a look that made her knees go weak. "And fortunately, you don't need to worry. She doesn't seem to be my type. Not only that, but she draws too much attention. Besides..." Trailing off whilst raking a hand through his hair, he muttered, "I already have my eye on someone..."

"What?" (Y/N) tilted her head, having not caught that last part of what he said.

    "Nothing. Let's go."

(Y/N) let out a breath of relief as she followed Light away from Misa's shoot. While she knew that Light would never fall for Misa in any way, she had to tell him something that would make her wanting to get away less suspicious. And for some time now, she had an inkling of a thought that both she and Light were dancing along the borders between friendship and something more.

    Her lips thinned.

She just couldn't decide if she wanted that or not.

Unfortunately, as the two walked away, they didn't notice Misa's striking hazel eyes pin onto their forms. She had noticed that Rem seemed a little distracted since moments ago, and when following the Shinigami's gaze, imagine her surprise when spotting a boy with no lifespan.

Her lips curved into a smile.

'Yagami Moon...' huh?

It seems even without the police's help, I still managed to find Kira—it's as if it were fate!

Turning back to her fans as if nothing had happened, Misa readily autographed whatever paper they threw at her, seeming to ignore the ever increasing worrying looks that Rem shot her. The Shinigami hadn't meant to expose Light's identity as Kira, she had just been taken aback at the sight of Ryuk and (Y/N) so close to Misa's location. She didn't mean to stare too long, but now the web that (Y/N) had so desperately been trying to unwind was tangled up again.

Rem's one eye narrowed.

This isn't good.

If Misa gets tangled up in the Kira investigation, she will not be happy.

I'll have to warn (Y/N).

And once more when Misa was sound asleep, Rem unfurled her wings to fly towards (Y/N)'s house. And, almost like she had been expecting the God of Death, she sat waiting on the edge of her bed with her arms and legs crossed, looking deep in thought about something—Rem couldn't even begin to guess what, the girl's actions that complex and puzzling at some times.

"I'm guessing Misa saw Light today, huh?" She questioned without looking at Rem. "I can only assume that's why you're visiting me so late at night again, correct?"

"Yes."

"And here I thought I would be prepared for anything," she laughed bitterly. "What was Misa even doing at To-Oh anyways?"

"She is a model. That is her job," Rem answered lowly. "The location was chosen randomly."

"That doesn't matter," (Y/N) waved away the God's words as she finally looked up to meet her one, uncovered eye that flashed dangerously in the low lighting of the room. "I can assure you that if Misa confronts Light about being Kira, her life will never be the same again. He is someone who uses people like pawns—he likes to manipulate them and their emotions in a way that makes them seem as if every action they were taking was their own doing when it is not. You wouldn't want Misa around that type of person, would you?"

"No..." Rem leaned down, the purple strands of her hair shifting with the action. "Both you and Kira seem equally as dangerous."

(Y/N)'s brow raised.

She hadn't expected that answer.

"And yet you still trust me?" She then pressed, wondering what the God's answer would be.

"I do not trust you, nor do I like you. You say Kira is one who manipulates others, but you and he are one in the same in that aspect," Rem spoke, the dark shadows her figure drew seeming to elongate the longer her presence lingered. "This—all of this—is like a game to you, I've noticed. But then again, you have also become a master at it."

"So what you're saying, is...?"

"What I'm saying is that while I don't trust you, I trust your words about Misa," Rem nodded. "You speak with a profound wisdom that almost makes me doubt your other... qualities."

"Should I be offended by that?"

"Interpret it as you wish."

Letting out a slow exhale of breath, (Y/N) tapped her finger against her arm as she let the Shinigami's words sink in, looking blankly at the floor as she did so. She knew that what Rem was saying was right, and that she didn't view everything she did as chance. But at the same time, she felt as if the world around her were thriving more than it did back in her past reality.

She didn't want to give that up.

And maybe that was why she changed some things, but not the fundamentals.

Her eyes narrowed.

But, now... I'm not going to let that happen.

Misa...
