When L opened the doors to a lavish room, he, Light, and (Y/N) found Aiber already slouching lazily on the couch, a drink in his hand whilst listening with a bored expression to Misa talking about the latest trends in the fashion industry. When his eyes caught on the three, a smile then crossed his rugged face as he leaned forward eagerly, obviously having been very bored until their arrival."So, I trust you are ready to begin?" The detective inquired, pulling a cone microphone out of nowhere.
"Yes," Aiber replied with a sigh, thankful to get out of the conversation with Misa, instead folding his hands together as his eyes pierced hers. "Tell me Misa, is it true that you once said that you came to Tokyo in order to meet Ki—?"
"What!?" She exclaimed dramatically, throwing herself backwards as her eyes and lips formed into the shape of an 'o.'
L groaned, hitting the cone lightly on the top of her head before placing it to his lips to instruct, "Misa, please stop overreacting. It looks too cheesy, not to mention fake."
"Aw, but I thought that was a realistic performance," she pouted over the head of the couch, lips pursed—that was, until she caught (Y/N)'s gaze, swallowing from the dangerous warning a lit in the (E/C) hues. "F-Fine. I'll do as you say and not overreact anymore. Since I'm helping (Y/N), be thankful to her that I'm doing this at all."
"Just do it again," L exhaled.
"Whatever you say, oh, so great director..." Misa rolled her eyes as she turned away from him.
"If you don't get serious about this, I'll kick you."
"Hmph."
(Y/N)'s lips curved upwards.
Seems this is going just as expected...
"Hey, (Y/N)..." Light placed a hand on her shoulder, drawing her attention away from her thought, his dark eyes brimming with worry. "About you going with Misa, can't you let someone else go instead? Like Mogi, for instance?"
"As Misa's agent, I have to go," she said, placing her hand over his, not seeming to realize—or pretending not to notice—just how affected he was by that one little action. "It would be strange if I wasn't there, and you know that. But, if it makes you feel any better, I'll just take Mogi with me instead of letting him replace me. He can instead replace Matsuda as Misa's second agent. Does that sound fair to you, Light?"
"Sure," he gave her a tight grin.
He then looked away, his expression darkening.
This is getting annoying...
Though Light had promised himself to wind (Y/N) around his finger, he found his mind consumed with thoughts only about her. It meant that he was the one instead falling victim to her charm and appeals, and it was starting to show. His eyes would always follow her, he would naturally lean in her direction, and he always seemed so much more inclined to converse with her than anyone else.
He was becoming dependent.
And that was dangerous.
But at the same time, he couldn't help but crave the feeling (Y/N) was giving him.
He didn't want that to stop.
After Misa was tested some more and her interview was completed to perfection, it was time for her actual interview with Yotsuba. Light was quick to snap himself out of his thoughts as he said goodbye to (Y/N), his eyes never once leaving her form until the door closed behind her, even then his gaze lingering on the spot where she once was.
"She'll be fine," L asserted after a moment of silence, staring at Light from the corner of his eye. "Stop worrying so much."
"It's not Misa that I'm worried about."
"I know."
Turning, Light's eyes narrowed to slits as he said, "Now, it's funny that you say that, L."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"While you say that it seems (Y/N) knows exactly what we think and feel, I now want to say the same thing about you," he ran a hand through his hair as he let out an exhale of exasperation. "You keep speaking as if you seem to know exactly what's going through my mind, specifically when concerning her. Why is that?"
"Well..." L muttered as he walked towards the window, watching as (Y/N) entered a car after Mogi and Misa. "I have the same thoughts as you..."
"What do you mean by that?"
L stayed silent.
Honestly, it doesn't surprise me that I've come to this conclusion. Light may not understand since while he's intellectually smart, he feels nothing.
That mask he puts up...
It doesn't fool me, nor her.
It's no wonder she doesn't treat him in the ways that I'd expect.
Now that I think about it, did she approach Light for this reason? Because he was putting on a front of his true thoughts and feelings?
I wouldn't put it past her.
She is... quite amazing.
"Ryuzaki!" Light shouted, regaining L's attention but at the same time making him want to groan.
"Yes?" He turned to face the boy.
"Are you going to answer my question?" Light demanded, obviously irritated from his stance and the way he crossed his arms over his chest.
"No... do I need to?"
After all...
It's not like my answer would benefit either of us.
Especially since it concerns her.
"I think it would be best that you do," Light's scowl seemed to only grow the longer he stared at the detective, a type of hostility crackling in the room as the two faced off. "After all, I'm not the type to just sit by silently and wait. I don't like to be kept in the dark about specific matters. And considering this is concerning (Y/N), I'm sure you feel the same. I know you feel the same. So, I ask you again: what the hell do you mean when you say that I have the same thoughts as you, Ryuzaki?"
L chuckled.
It was such a startling sound to Light that he almost sure it didn't happen, but it did.
"Well, Light..." the detective trailed off, once more gazing out the window with a crooked smile. "It seems you've already answered your own question."
"...I guess it seems I have."
