"What brings you here?" (Y/N) smiled at Light after opening the door to her house for him that evening, the boy returning the look.

"Considering that the Kira Investigation has come to a close and we haven't really talked about it these past few days, I thought it would be nice to see you again now that we've officially solved the case," he explained as the girl led him inside, his gaze roving over the familiar layout of the house, wishing to tell her Rin would no longer be a distraction in her life yet refraining. "It's strange, though, isn't it?"

"Is it?"

"Yeah—I mean, it's been almost two years."

"I guess you're right," (Y/N) leaned back on the couch she was sitting on, propping her head up with her fist. "A lot of our time was spent at Headquarters. I even had a floor there."

"Ryuzaki said you could keep it."

"I didn't want to impose."

"That's true," Light mused. "After all, he did suspect both of us of being Kira at a time."

"It's a relief you're no longer the prime suspect, too," (Y/N) hummed, playing the part of a loyal friend—something she knew she was now. "I wouldn't know what I'd do if Ryuzaki still suspected you. I would be surprised, firstly, since Higuchi was already executed."

"Hopefully something like that will never happen again," he mused. "Killings like Kira... or my being suspected of them."

She smiled softly.

The mood in the room was light-hearted.

Yet something warred in (Y/N)'s heart.

This is good... right?

"What are you thinking about so deeply?" Light then questioned after noticing the uncomfortable look on her face, leaning forward slightly, elated to see the girl after disposing of the thorn in the side and wanting know to soak in as much time with her as he could before news of Rin's murder got out. "Is it still about the case?"

"Yeah," (Y/N) propped her head up, her lips pursing. "I just wonder what Ryuzaki will do now that it's solved."

"He probably will move on to another case."

"Of course," she gave a short laugh, tapping her finger against the arm of her couch. "Of course..."

"You don't sound too enthused?" Light raised a brow at her reaction.

"Maybe..."

"What is it?"

"I just think... I'm going to miss him."

"Are you talk about... Ryuzaki?" Light practically had to force out as his hands gripping the armrests tightened, practically almost seeing red at that point when she nodded in confirmation to his answer—he almost couldn't believe it, having told himself over and over that she would only ever be able to be with him, and never with another.

Yet there she was, pining after a different man.

Light struggled to control himself.

It was only then did a slow, raspy laugh begin to fill the room, (Y/N) glancing up to see Ryuk hovering just in the corner of the room, silently observing as usual. But it wasn't the case now, his yellow eyes flashing in the dim lighting whole his jagged smile grew wider with each grating chuckle that left his lips. (Y/N)'s eyes widened since she knew that Ryuk only laughed like that when he knew something that others didn't—specifically information that didn't take too kindly to the people he was laughing at.

What exactly is he hinting at?

The sudden ringing from her phone, however, startled her from her thoughts. Quickly flipping the device open to see no caller ID, her brows furrowed, but she still chose to answer it.

"Hello?" She placed the phone to her ear.

"(Y/N), it's Ryuzaki," L's voice filtered through the speaker, surprising her and making her eyes immediately widen since she hadn't expected to hear from him so soon—Light, having noticed her reaction, could only feel his own eyes narrow.

"Hi, Ryuzaki," she ran a hand through her (H/C) hair. "What's with the sudden call?"

"Is Light with you?"

"Yes."

"...Can you come to Headquarters alone? There's something I wish to discuss with you," he said briefly before hanging up, the dial tone ringing in the girl's ear until she took the phone away.

"What did Ryuzaki want?" Light questioned, his agitation spiking at the mention of the detective.

"He needs me to come to Headquarters," (Y/N) answered with puzzlement evident in her tone, sliding her phone into her back pocket as she stood up to walk to the door, only then noticing Light behind her when hearing his footsteps. "Ah. He also specifically asked that I come alone, if that's alright. I'm not sure why, but I don't think it's anything too serious—I probably just forgot something."

    Light didn't say anything.

He didn't think it was as simple as that. If anything, it was everything but.

Walking out of (Y/N)'s house as she locked the door and watching as she walked away—but not before giving him a small wave back and a smile—Light put one hand in his pocket and frowned. At first, he didn't mind Ryuzaki, even if he was suspicious of him as Kira, but now he was a problem. And Light knew that he would do anything to eliminate said problem. And as he walked back inside his house, (Y/N) arrived at the crystalline building of Task Force Headquarters.

It was there inside where she found L, alone, absentmindedly chewing on a cookie.

The detective then turned his gaze upward to the girl when hearing her footsteps, lingering on her form for a moment longer than absolutely necessary before turning back to the computer. His expression was impassive—it usually was—but something was clearly different that time.

"You wanted to see me?" (Y/N) tilted her head as she sat down next to him with a casual smile.

"Yes," L murmured. "Thank you for making your way here so quickly, (Y/N), as there is something quite important I wish to discuss with you."

    "What is it?"

L stared at her for a moment longer before he looked away and said, "Nakashima Rin is dead. And I have reason to suspect that Yagami Light was the one who killed him."
