"So, after running through ticket information and then narrowing down who was in the same cart as the victim, we compiled a list of twenty people excluding the victim," Aizawa began as he clicked a few keys on the computer to reveal pictures of several people all of different ages and backgrounds. "They are the only ones who could be Kira."

(Y/N) zeroed in on Teru.

"What about that one there?" L questioned as he pointed his fork at Teru's picture, having obtained a slice of cake from Watari since (Y/N) and her own cake made him start craving the sweet.

"That's Mikami Teru, prosecutor," Aizawa answered, clicking a key to enlarge his picture.

"Hm... even his job is in alignment with Kira's doings," L muttered, cupping his chin as he stared at Teru's picture, his dark eyes unwavering. "Punishing criminals... huh?" Biting the tip of his thumb as he blinked slowly, he continued gazing at Teru's picture before continuing, "We'll make sure to take the proper measures of investigating everyone in this car, but... for Mikami Teru especially, I want all of you to focus your attention on him."

"Oh?" Matsuda blinked. "Does that mean you suspect him more than the others?"

"Maybe..." he mumbled.

"And if he is Kira, how would we apprehend him?" Aizawa demanded as he set one hand on his hip, his stare stoic and unmoving "And what if it turns out you're wrong about him?"

"Then we were wrong," L answered simply enough. "And we'll amend that."

"If we want to focus our sights more so on Mikami Teru, should he be assigned a tail, then?" (Y/N) pointed out as she drummed her fingers against the arm of her chair, her eyes roving over the metallic ceiling. "To get a view into his daily life, to see if there are any inconsistencies, to see if he slips up at one long or another... there should be someone there to confirm all of that, correct?"

"Yes," L nodded.

"If that's the case, I will follow him," she then declared, making L jolt and drop his fork—Light's reaction wasn't much better.

"What?" Light scoffed as he stood up, a disbelieving smile tilting his lips upward. "What do you mean? Where did this idea even come from? Why would you need to follow him?"

"I'm a part of this Task Force, so why wouldn't I?" She countered with a raised brow.

"And as a part of this Task Force, you've been an unrivaled addition," L murmured as he picked up his fork again, now merely staring at the way the metal shimmered in the overhead lighting. "If you go out there and get killed by Mikami Teru if he is Kira, then everything will be... useless. And I don't think I ever want to see such a thing."

"And I understand that, Ryuzaki," she proclaimed as she stood up to round the side of his chair, her hands placing themselves on his shoulders before moving slowly down his arms, her very touch sending jolts of pleasure through his body. "But you'll allow me to do this, right? After all, it's for the good of the case, isn't it?" She leaned even closer to him, her warm breath tickling his ear as she then whispered, "Isn't it... L?"

His brow twitched.

He knew what she was doing, and knew that she was doing it very well.

"It is... for the good of the case," he finally murmured, making (Y/N) pull away, but not before he was able to grab her wrist and pull her back to murmur something to her privately. "But later this evening... I think I'll need better convincing."

"Of course," she smiled.

And with that, he let her go.

"Whoo! This is it!" Matsuda cheered as he tried to lift the mood, his brown eyes however lit with excitement whilst pumping his fists up and down. "The final showdown in catching Kira!"

"Yeah, it's kind of hard to believe," Aizawa mentioned whilst leaning back on the couch, folding his arms over his chest.

"We've made it this far, we can't turn back now," Soichiro affirmed, Mogi giving a stiff nod.

"No..." L stated, staring intently into (Y/N)'s (E/C) eyes. "We can't."

She glanced away.

He's looking at me as if he thinks I'll run.

As if he'd let me.

She then glanced towards Light. On the outside, he looked very calm—serene, almost. But then there would be something so subtle that would twitch in his expression that would give away the chaos and darkness of his real thoughts.

Either of them.

Over the next couple of days, (Y/N) tailed Teru with Ryuk in tow, learning that just like from the anime, he never strayed from his routine. It was almost obsessive how he went through his day that was perfectly tailored so that not a minute was spent doing something unnecessary or time-wasting. Currently, she was about fifty paces behind Teru, weaving in and out of the crowd that she found herself in when walking the busy sidewalk to the gym after exiting the bus.

Ryuk groaned from above her.

"Hey, so, when are you going to stop following him and actually make a move?" He asked as he hovered just to the right of her, obviously bored considering there had been nothing of interest happening at the moment. "You are planning on making contact with this guy, right?"

"Why are you asking when I already explained it to you?" (Y/N) murmured lowly with a roll of her eyes, tucking a lock of her (H/C) hair behind her ear.

"Well, you might have to explain it one more time," Ryuk stated with a raspy chuckle.

She merely rolled her eyes again.

"Come on, I'm bored, (Y/N)!" Ryuk mentioned again as he turned over so that he was now floating on his back, one leg crossed over the other while his fingers threaded together to rest behind his head. "When are things gonna get good again?"

"Have some patience, Ryuk," she smirked. "You'll be entertained very soon."
