summary: 2 months without Rafe had been torture, but you weren't letting yourself fall back into his trap unless he changed
spice:0/5
The following weeks after you left you and Rafe's shared apartment to go stay with your mom were full of hundreds of phone calls and texts from him. No matter how much it hurt you, you knew if you ended up answering him, that you would fall back into his trap. Now it's been two months, and you still haven't answered him— or seen him.
"Honey, he's here again. I can see him on the camera. I just don't understand what happened. I know how much you love each other, I think you should at least talk to him, sweetie", your mom says as she stands in front of you, watching Rafe through the RING camera on her phone.
"Mom. I can't. I'll end up going back"
"Well baby, maybe that's what you both need." She hands you her phone and you can see how distraught and lost Rafe has been without you. Your heart re-breaks all over again after you've spent the last couple months trying to get him off your mind. But the truth was, you couldn't. You never could. He was your soulmate and you knew it.
You sigh as you sit your mom's phone on the coffee table and make your way to the front door. Before you turn the knob, you give yourself a silent pep-talk in your head.
Don't fall into the trap. Don't believe him without proof. DON'T.BE.STUPID.
With slight hesitation, you hover your hand over the doorknob before finally grabbing it and opening the door. Based on Rafe's face, he wasn't at all expecting you to come to the door this time.
"Y/n..." the way he calls your name makes your heart leap.
"Yeah", you gulp, not wanting him to know that you're fazed in the slightest.
"H-how have you been?" His eyes are pleading with you without his mouth even needing to.
"Fine. You um...you look...better" you say to him as your eyes rake along his body and face
"Listen y/n. I'm gonna skip the bullshit. I want you to come home."
"I am home. I don't live there anymore." Your words fall out harshly.
"Y/n. Please. I-I'm sober. I flushed all of my coke the night you walked out. Every ounce of it...it's gone. I haven't even been drinking." A confused look scatters across your face.
"I didn't ask you to stop drinking, Rafe. You didn't need to do that for me."
"I did need to. I needed to prove to you that no substance matters more to me than you do, and I wish I would've fucking realized it sooner. You're the love of my life. I've been so lost these past two months not being able to talk to you, not having you around. I miss hearing your voice. Shit, I even missed the arguments, y/n. And...I know you probably hate me now, but I just want one more chance to show you that I've changed. You were right. You deserved better. So I became better. For you. I love you." A single tear streamed down Rafe's cheek as he finished speaking.
"I love you too." You hate the fact that you had to break up with Rafe for him to clean up his act, but you were lowkey glad that it happened.
"I...I wanna give you everything. You deserve everything, y/n. I wanna be able to grow old with you, and I want you to have my kids. There's nobody else that I want any of those things with. It's you. It's always been you."
You feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside as Rafe literally pours his heart and feelings out to you.
"You know, before I came out here I told myself not to fall into your trap again." Rafe's face falls as all the joy left it. "But...I can tell you meant every word you said. And you look sober. I believe you. And I've hated being away from you for so long. I was worried one day I would come home and find you lying on the ground from an overdose." A tear pricks at the corner of your eye, remembering all the times you were worried of walking in on that very sight.
Rafe steps closer to you, wrapping his muscular arms around the back of your neck and pulling you in for a hug.
"Shh. It's okay, baby. I promise you'll never have to feel that way again. I'm so sorry" he says as he lands a small kiss on the top of your head and rocks you back and forth.
You sniffle and wipe the tears from your eyes and off of your face as you release yourself from Rafe's loving arms, looking into his icy blue eyes.
"So...will you come home?" Rafe asks in a hopeful tone.
You stand there pretending to ponder your answer, but you already know what it's going to be. You tire of the little game when you see a look of concern on his face.
"I just wanna say something before I give you an answer."
Rafe nods, eager to hear what you need to say.
"I'm really proud of you, Rafe. Thank you...for stepping up. But as for me coming back home, I just don't think..."
Rafe's face drops again, a saddened expression in his eyes.
"That I would ever be able to say no after all the sweet things you just said to me." You let out a chuckle, knowing that you've successfully tricked Rafe.
"You little asshole. I thought you were about to tell me no", he laughs.
"Of course I'll come home with you, baby." You smile as you stand on your tip-toes, reaching up for a kiss.
Rafe lowers his head to meet yours and your lips crash together in a dance of passion and longing.
