Kenzie took some extra time for herself in the girls shower room to just recollect herself and calm down, but in that extra time she was also alone with her thoughts, which wasn't always the best thing. Kenzie cursed herself for letting Kenda get under her skin. For as long as the two magic users have known each other they have never seen eye to eye. Kendra has always viewed herself as "the queen bee", making everyone's business about her and refusing to feel inferior, which is why her and Kenzie always butt heads. The two have subconsciously made it their goal to never lose to one another. If one wins a battle then the next time the other has to come out on top. Kenzie blames Kendra's bad attitude and persona on her absent (physically and emotionally) parents. But Kendra blames it on Kenzie....
"Kenzie, you still in here?" Dana's voice echoed against the tiled bathhouse.
"Yeah, over here!" Kenzie raised her hand over the curtain to indicate her location for Dana. "About time" she added and Dana just sighed.
"Yeah, it took me and Ash a while to convince Emmet to just let it go but you know how he gets. Now he's outside, punishing himself for losing to Kendra by running laps around the school. Ash is supervising to make sure he does the right amount"
Kenzie laughed a little but tried to stifle it, hearing the helplessness in her young friend's voice. "Well, at least it'll keep him busy for a while..." she spoke, turning the shower off and wrapping a towel around her body.
There have been a few times when Kenzie wondered how, and why, Dana has put up with Emmet for so long even though it's only been a few months. Dana could easily surpass all of them, find someone more suitable and get out on her own, but she chooses to stay and help Emmet reach what she believes could be his potential. Kenzie doesn't understand it but she also realizes it isn't her place to speak out against their Partnership because she certainly knows what it's like to feel like everyone is against some personal choices.
Kenzie walked from the shower room to the locker room and she threw on a new set of clothes. Dana told her to go on without her because she was going to try and rinse the dirt and leaves out of her hair, so when Kenzie walked out of the girl's locker room she saw Ash standing there, leaning on the opposite wall in front of her.
"Hey, you good now?" he asked her, tossing her a bottle of water.
She caught it. "Yeah, I feel a little better...what happened to Emmet?"
"He's on the roof"
"Why...actually, never mind. Don't tell me. I'd rather not be an accomplice"
He just chuckled as they walked side by side down the corridor and out of the Simulation Building.
"Did you study for the potions lab quiz?" he asked.
"I'm not letting you copy off me"
"I never said to let me copy...just don't flip the test over when you're done and position it more toward me so I can see your answers"
Kenzie gave him a look. "If you weren't up so late last night playing Protector's Duty on the Magi-box Live...I knew I shouldn't have gotten that thing installed in my room. You're the only one that uses it!"
"Don't lie. I know you use it too when no one's around. And it helps with tactic development" he defended.
"Right...who told you that? Emmet?"
He kept his mouth shut and rolled his eyes as they continued to head back to the main building where their next class took place. "Speaking of..." Kenzie chuckled, side stepping subtly as she felt Emmet's presence get closer and closer.
