Chapter 13: Test

Mia's POV

*One Week Later*

I sat in the waiting room, staring at my feet as I swung them. I gripped onto the edge of the chair, my mind racing. I was startled by a hand on my shoulder. I jumped and looked up to see Andy, slightly chuckling.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."

"It's fine, I was deep in thought, not your fault," I responded with a shrug.

"In thought about what?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Nothing," I shrugged again.

"Mia Palmer!" A voice called. I looked to see a nurse standing at the waiting room door. I walked up to her and Andy followed. She pulled us out of the waiting room and down a blank hallway. At the end was a room with a plaque outside that read 'Lab'. "You're here for a paternity test?" She asked.

"Both of us," I said with a nod.

"Go on in. Mia, you can take a seat in the brown chair. Sir, you may sit in the black one," she directed. I sat in the large brown chair and Andy sat in the regular black one, as we were told. We sat and waited a minute before a phlebotomist walked up to us.

"Hi, can I have you confirm your name and date of birth?" she asked me, looking at the piece of paper in front of her.

"Mia Palmer, November 11th, 1994," I responded. I happened to glance over at Andy and he was looking at me with wide eyes.

"Thank you, I'm just going to take one vial of blood," she said, grabbing a blue piece of rubber and tying it around my arm as a tourniquet. She cleaned the inside of my elbow and then pierced it with a needle. Once she filled one vial, she removed the needle and placed a cotton ball on the wound, wrapping a red bandage around my arm to secure it. She placed a sticker with my information on the vial and placed it in a holding tray and then turned to face Andy.

"Can you please confirm your name and date of birth?" she asked him, looking at a different piece of paper in front of him.

"Andrew Biersack, December 26th, 1990." He responded. She thanked him and pulled out a cotton swab.

"I'm just going to get a swab of your cheek," she said, instructing him to open his mouth.

"Guys always get the easy way out," I chuckled, making the phlebotomist laugh slightly. Andy just rolled his eyes as she pulled the cotton swab out and placed it in a vial, breaking it in half.

"You guys should have results mailed to you in a week, two at the most," she said, cleaning everything up and leaving.

"What was that look for?" I asked Andy as we stood up from our chairs.

"You didn't tell me your birthday was a week ago."

"I didn't feel like I needed to," I shrugged.

"You feel like coffee?" he asked, shoving his hands in his jacket pockets as we made it back to the waiting room.

"Lunch," I responded simply.

"McDonald's?" he questioned as he walked out of the doctor's office. I took a moment and thought before nodding. We agreed on which McDonald's we would meet at and separated to our cars. I drove there with a random BVB album playing lightly through my speakers. I was trying to listen to them more because I actually really like their music.

I made it to the McDonald's and walked in. I joined the line, Andy coming up next to me. When it was my turn at the register, I ordered and pulled out my wallet to pay. Before I could get my card out, Andy pushed me to the side and placed his order. He already had his card out and tapped it to the machine and it beep, signifying that his payment had gone through. The employee handed us a number and two soda cups.
