wandering his way down to lower level of his friends house, flicking the lights on, he then paced around for a moment with his phone opened on the camera app as he played with his hair.

meanwhile, in the state over, estelle had her headphones on ready and was slightly panicking as she awaited the call. she had never called a guy romantically, let alone facetimed. she just wasn't sure what to expect.

what do i do if he is a catfish

what if he isn't a catfish and this
becomes something real

all the what if's were filling her mind. she was nervous to see him, nervous to talk to him, but at the same time excited. she could feel her cheeks heat up the longer she waited, the smile on her face getting wide just at the thought of him.

her phone soon lit up with said call, estelle took a deep breath, subtly freaking out for a second before accepting the call. adjusting how she held the camera, trying to decide how she should as it was connecting.

"hi.." she quietly spoke.

"hey phenoix," he chuckled, a smile on his face as he saw the girl. "i told ya i'm real."

"i can see that," she subtly bit down on her lip to try and hide her smile. ".. i thought you were going out tonight?"

"i am out?" he furrowed for a second, realising she probably assumed he was actually going out not just hanging out at a house. "oh- i'm at my mate's place. it's his girlfriend's friend's birthday, just something chill but i'll take any excuse to drink."

"oh.. what made you change your mind?"

"about calling tonight?" he received a nod. "i had mentioned you thinking i was fake and the girls were all like 'you gotta call her, girls are cautious about guys they meet online'," he chuckled as he mocked them.

"they're not wrong about that," she replied, falling into slightly awkward silence for a couple seconds. "so did you want to.. go back to your friends now that i know you're real..?"

"you tryna hang up already?!" he playfully gasped. "i got plenty of time to talk to ya."

"okay.."

"you look cute with your little headphones on, phoenix."

"thank you.."

"so why aren't you doin' anything tonight?"

"i don't really like going out.." she softly shook her head.

"mh.. why not?" he questioned before continuing to babble; "it's so much fun, i couldn't wait to turn twenty-one, didn't have to be careful going out anymore," he laughed.

"i'm just not a fan of drinking.. getting drunk just doesn't interest me at all.."

"you don't go out at all?" he raised a brow.

"i do sometimes with my friends when they bother me too much about it and i finally give in," she chuckled. "but i just more enjoy hanging out with them over the whole party scene."

"would you go out to party with me?"

"a couple like house parties, yeah," she nodded, watching a small smile form on his face. "i don't know about every night though- and also i wouldn't want to risk going out to a club or anything till i'm twenty-one."

"when are you twenty-one?"

"november."

"are you gonna do something for it?"

"i don't know.."

"c'mon, you have to! go big or go home!"

"what did you do for yours?" she questioned.

"vegass," he dragged his words out as he cheered the city's name.

"okay, well, my friends and i unfortunately don't have the money for that," she slightly chuckled. "if i do anything, it'll be something around here."

"i only had it there cause i had a show there," he laughed as he admitted. "my.. ex and a couple other friends then flew there for it."

"sounds like it would've been fun."

"it was a lot of fun," he agreed. "actually you just made me remember that my mate was simpin' too hard for his girl that he didn't even show up for it-"

"stop talking about my boyfriend!" adalyn chimed in on the security camera's microphone, which slightly make the boy jump since he didn't know she could do that.

he quickly flipped the security camera off, while estelle was left confused on what was going on.

"stay on the call, let me go talk to them," he explained as he stood up.

"okay," she agreed, still unsure on what just happened.

closing the app but leaving himself unmuted, zach quickly went upstairs, all his friends look at him and laughing as he walking over to them.

"what the fuck?!" he particularly had his eyes on the girl that owned the house. "you told me to go down there for 'privacy' just so you can spy on me?"

"nah, i just remembered we could listen in on ya," adalyn laughed. "just happened to be good timing."

"well leave me alone," he scoffed, rolling his eyes as he then headed over to the front door and opening the facetime once he got outside — but still continuing to walk a bit away from the door to get far enough away from the other cameras. "sorry bout that."

"what even happened?" estelle furrowed.

"they've got cameras fuckin' all over their house and were using one to snoop on us," he spoke in annoyance.

"oh.."

"it's fine," he brushed it off.

"well did you want to go so you could go hang out with them?" she awkwardly questioned.

"did you want me to go?" zach furrowed.

"well we don't need to get to know everything about each other tonight.."

"you got a point," he nodded as he slowly walked in circles around the driveway. "then you can go finish reading your book."

"mhm"

"i'll let ya go then.."

"okay.."

"it was nice seeing you, making sure you were real," he chuckled. "bye phoenix.."

"bye zach.."
