CHAPTER TEN
{ An Apology }
***SINCE YOUR FIGHT, you haven't spoken to Emily. That being said, it's only been a day and you haven't really had the chance to talk to her even if you wanted to.
You're not sure that you do want to.
You shouldn't. She's been so caught up in your problems, in how you're feeling, and instead of thanking her for being one of the only people who's ever cared enough to ask you if you're okay, you lashed out on her. It's not about her, it's about you and your unfamiliarity with people actually giving a shit about you. All your life you've been told to handle things on your own, to wear a cloak and hide your true feelings, otherwise you'd be weak. You don't know how to live any other way.
Emily knows this, which is why she isn't upset with you.
Sure, she's bothered slightly (who wouldn't be), but she knows that your reaction was irrational and stemming from trauma that you have no control over.
It's clear that you haven't dealt with whatever issues your parents left you with, probably because you don't know where to start. Similar Jude's death, your emotions regarding your childhood feel so overwhelming that you would rather shove them deep down into your gut than face them and all of their complexities, and Emily can't blame you.
They clearly affect you in just about every realm of your life, so facing them can't be easy.
She has to remind herself of this so that she doesn't take what you said personally. You're hurting, you're confused, and you don't know how to handle what you're feeling—you never have and it's not your fault.
You feel bad enough as is, which is why you don't want to face Emily.
She thumbs through the files on the round table as Garcia speaks.
"Four days ago, Michelle Colucci found this flyer on her front door." She briefs.
On the big screen at the front of the room, a missing person flyer fades into view. It has the woman, Michelle Colucci's, name at the top, just below the red bolded letters that declare her having gone missing.
"She found it?" Emily questions. "Meaning she wasn't actually missing?"
"You are correct, cupcake. She took the flier to a friends husband," The photo of a detective appears on the screen behind her. "Detective Yarbrough, at the Carrollton PD. He told her it was probably just a Halloween prank and sent her home."
