Why am I like this?

I wondered as I watched him leave. His figure fading into the night, hood draped over his head. No matter what, after every fight, we always said I love you after. But tonight, I don't know why I didn't. We were both to blame. He was yelling, I was yelling. He then yelled

"I love you"

Silence.

He stared into my eyes. His were like daggers awaiting to pierce the soul within me.

But I said nothing, just stared back.

He then took a step back. His eyes searching for who knows what. He then grabbed his black hoodie and pulled it over himself. Took his keys and wallet and left. Leaving the door unlocked.

I don't know what came over me in the moment. Maybe it was me being stiff, maybe I felt guilt. But I just let him go. Do what he was going to do. Just let off steam I'm sure.

I love him, I truly do. I just hope he is ok.

My heart faltered with each read message. No response, just read. He knew I was trying to reach him. Tears streamed down my face. Was I being desperate? Yes. Do I care? No.

I called him
Blocked.

I screamed so loud my voice hurt before I buried my face into his pillow and sobbed. Little did I know he was only outside, on the front steps. He heard me scream. He could hear my loud sobs.

Around an hour had passed. I didn't register the door opening. Theo sat at the end of the bed.

"Kai"

I didn't say anything

"Kailan I'm so sorry"

He moved over and cradled me in his arms. His head resting atop mine.

With my broken voice I croaked-

"We are you sorry, I'm sorry. I ruined things."

I began to cry again

"Shhh...It's ok. You didn't ruin anything. I just needed some fresh air. I was hurt. I needed a break. Not from you. But from everything. But it's moments like these that make me want to be with you forever"

I looked up to him, breaking my head away from his chest.

"I love you."

"I love you too" he replied.
