I'm running. It's the only thing I've known since that cold night in December, well for me it was only cold for a minute. That night changed my life and that night put me where I am now, running for my life. I dodged through trees and lept over fallen branches trying to make it to where ever my nose was leading me. I could smell it as I ran. It wasn't too far now but the others were closing in on me. I suddenly felt a burning sensation start to grow in my stomach and whimpered at the pain. I heard a howl and the pain became unbearable. Soon I wasn't sure I was going to make it. I looked back and wished I hadn't. There were at least ten of them and only one me. Panicking, I forgot to watch where I was going and roughly collided with what I thought was a tree. But it wasn't a tree, that much I could tell by the extreme heat it radiated when I touched it. I wanted to run but something kept me in my place and I felt whatever it was breathing against me. I slowly looked up to face it and I stared right into the eyes of a large, no huge wolf. I heard barks and growls from behind me and I had to get away but when I moved the wolf let out a low growl to keep me in my place. Suddenly they burst through the shadows and their leader howled acting like he'd already won. A loud, menacing growl silenced them and I ducked between my wolf's front legs. Wait, my wolf? Where did that come from? I Didnt own this wolf! What am I thinking? The others growled, tearing me from my thoughts, and advanced upon their target. I grabbed onto one of the legs knowing the target was me. I don't know what happened next all I felt was pain then darkness.
I woke up alone on a fluffy maroon bed and smelled the air. The smell I'd been following is gone which could mean two things. Either I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be or I've been captured and they're masking the scent. I automatically assume it's the latter and quietly slide out of bed taking in the room. There was a small table the right of me with a vase on it and a vintage looking dresser to the left that I was drawn to. I took a few steps toward it but jumped back when I heard a loud bang and footsteps coming my way. I immediately grab the vase and hide behind the dresser which was just big enough to conceal me. The footsteps paused and I heard the door open. When footsteps get closer I grip the vase hard and prepare myself. As his shoelace falls by my toes I use all my strength and smash the case against his face. He stumbles back and I run as fast as I can but before I even make to the end of the hall I feel a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist. I gasp as he picks me up and my body burns from his contact. I wiggle around until I'm facing him and what happened next completely freaked me out. I felt a swarm of compassion for him and I never wanted to leave his arms. Then I heard a whine come from within me and a voice in my head screamed "MATE" over and over. I was so confused and scared that I completely forgot about about the warm feeling he gave me and shoved him away. He looked wounded but my action and when I turned and ran he didn't follow me.
After what seemed like hours of running through that maze of a house, I finally collapsed outside gasping for air. I know I should have been happy to have made it out alive but I wasn't. To be honest I felt empty and cold. I didn't know what to do i just lay there on the ground waiting for death but it never came. No one came for me. When morning came once more I knew the people or person that captured me couldn't have had any horrible intentions if they didn't care enough to go after me as I escaped. I stood up and stared at the door for awhile before deciding to go back in. As I opened the door a cold wave of air hit me and I shivered. I didn't think anything could be colder than this winter breeze. I stepped inside and began walking through the halls until I heard voices. I almost panicked but I remembered they didn't care when I left. We rounded the corner at the same time and I almost collided with a tall blonde. She grabbed me by the throat and I'm sure she would have killed me if her friend hadn't stopped her. Together they decided to let their alpha deal with me. I had never met an alpha before as I was never part of a pack. I should probably mention I'm a werewolf. I wasn't born one like most wolves so I didn't know basic werewolf etiquette, like apparently not walking through their pack house unsupervised. We finally made it to the alpha's office. It was just me and the blonde at the door and her hands once again found my neck, though this time it was a bit more gentle. She was holding me like a puppy that peed on the floor when she knocked on the door.
"Yes Samantha?" A very angry man growled from behind the door.
"I have something, or well someone for you," the girl named Samantha said with a quivering voice. If I had to guess I'd say she's scared of her alpha.
"Very well," he replied sounding exhausted and I have to admit I was hoping he'd just tell us to go away. She opened the door with her hand still on my neck and my eyes flicked up to a man hunched over a desk with lots of paperwork. I kinda felt bad for wasting his time and my gaze dropped to the floor. As he looked up I could feel his stare and I tuned out of whatever he was about to say and focused on the past few months.
I was walking home after running out angrily promising to never return. I was being dramatic at the time and I didn't know those would be the last words I ever said to my mother. Obviously I didn't make it home that night, in fact I still haven't made it home. I was intercepted when I took a short cut through the woods. A grey wolf pounced on me and bit me in the neck. As I lay there bleeding it licked my wound I felt a burning sensation where it had bitten me and I closed my eyes. I woke up with a man staring at me. He looked relieved when he saw me wake up. He explained that he had been the alpha of a very strong pack in Minnesota. His trusted beta took him down and he became a rogue. No rogue can be an alpha so when his link was torn from the pack he became an omega, the lowest rank in a pack. Only alphas can turn a human into a wolf from their bite. He may now be an omega but he still has alpha blood and that's what he did to me. He'd always dreamed of finding his mate and when he did she rejected him. She couldn't stand the thought of being mated to a rogue. He wanted a mate and he didn't care what he had to do to get one. Sadly for him I wasn't born for him. I had a true mate out there. I didn't bother listening to the rest of his werewolf talk. I ran that day and I've been running ever since. With the few friends he had he made a vow that I would never get away with what I'd done to him.
I rubbed the scar he left when he turned me and was brought out of my daze when someone snapped their fingers in front of my face. I looked up ignoring the eyes of the alpha and surveyed the room. My eyes landed on Samantha. She was laying on the ground. Not moving. Not breathing. I gasped and my eyes flicked to the alpha and I backed away dropping my hand to my side in fear. It was the same guy that grabbed me yesterday. "Mate" the voice in my head whined. He stepped closer and moved my hair out of the way and his eyes landed on the scar. I couldn't quite detect all the emotions on his face.. Anger..Disbelief..Betrayal..Disgust? He pulled his hand away like I burned him and I felt my heart crack.
I've never been an emotional person but in that moment I fell to my knees and cried. I felt so worthless. When he made no move to comfort me I ran. I was so blinded by tears I didn't see the table and vase in the hall and flew into them. I rubbed my eyes and saw there was blood everywhere. I heard someone coming so I grabbed a piece of glass and ran out of the house. This time I didn't stop, I kept running for miles until I couldn't breathe. I leaned against a tree and started sobbing again. I felt a sudden pain in my hand and remembered the piece of glass I had grabbed to defend myself. I fell to my knees and assessed the damage. I had a few deep gashes in my arm from falling. I looked at the glass then made a couple more. A couple turned four and four to six and suddenly my arm was covered in cuts and blood and I smiled. I leaned back against the tree and waited knowing that at the rate of the bleeding I would die soon. Death sounded so good right now. I looked down staring as blood left my body. Just one more. If he didn't want me why should I still be here? Another. I heard a branch snap. By then it was too late to save me but I made anither just in case. I closed my eyes getting colder. I was barely conscious when I felt strong arms pick me up. I attempted to hit whoever it was that was trying to save me but I was too weak and fell unconscious but not before I heard him say..."I'm Sorry Mia Cara" Then there was nothing but heat....
