*At Gray's Mansion*
As Matthew stormed out, Kate stood in the foyer, feeling an icy void where warmth and affection had been just moments before. His harsh words echoed in her mind, and she was left standing there, struggling to understand what had gone wrong.
Kate was whispering to herself.
Kate: What just happened? Was it something I did?
She wandered through the empty rooms of the mansion, her thoughts racing. The house, once a sanctuary of comfort and joy, now felt eerily quiet and cold. Each room she entered seemed to amplify her solitude, and the echoes of their earlier argument hung heavy in the air.
Kate: He must be so upset. But why didn’t he talk to me? Why did he leave like that?
As the hours dragged on, Kate tried to busy herself with small tasks, hoping that keeping her hands occupied might calm her racing thoughts. She tidied the living room, rearranged the cushions on the couch, and even prepared a meal, though her appetite was non-existent. Each action felt hollow, a mere distraction from the worry gnawing at her.
Kate looked at the clock
Kate: It’s already afternoon. Where could he be? What if something happened to him?
She paced the floors, her anxiety growing with each passing minute. Every time she heard a car outside, she rushed to the window, only to be met with disappointment. The thought of Matthew out there, alone and frustrated, made her heart ache.
Kate was sitting by the window. Hoping to see him.
Kate: I hope he’s safe. I hope he realizes how much I love him and how much I want to be there for him.
As evening approached, the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the mansion. The quiet of the house was oppressive, and Kate found herself sinking into a deep melancholy. She sat in the living room, her thoughts a whirlpool of confusion and sadness.
Kate: I just want to fix this. I want to tell him that I’m here for him, no matter what.
The doorbell suddenly rang, breaking the heavy silence. Kate’s heart skipped a beat, and she rushed to the door, hoping it was Matthew returning. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself before opening it.
As Kate opened the door, she was greeted by the sight of Ava standing on the doorstep, looking tired but determined.
Kate: Ava? What's wrong?...I mean it's late. Come inside.
Ava: No. Not now, we need to go to hospital.
Kate was shocked.
Kate: what? But why?
Ava: M-matthew, he....he met with an accident.
Kate: WHAT?......let's go now.
Kate held Ava's wrist, as they were about to leave Ava stopped her.
Ava: you will go hospital wearing that? Wear something nic--....I mean this is good but st-till?
Kate: what's wrong with you Ava? Are you expecting me to do make up now. HE IS IN HOSPITAL FOR GOD SAKE!
Ava: okay.... calm down. Let's go.
They left the Mansion towards Ava's car. Kate hurriedly sat at the front seat beside Ava, as Ava started driving. Ava saw kate shaking her legs, fidgeting with her fingers.
Ava: um....Kate you need to relax.
Kate: I can't..... it's tough, we fought today Ava. And he just left furiously.
