What's up ladies and gents! I'm Paradox and this is my first story, I'm new to wattpad so any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy the first chapter to The Boy in the Woods where you get to meet the street urchin Edward.

I hope that today is better than the past week has been, I almost got caught by the shop keeper yesterday because I was so hungry I was sloppy.

Today will be better though as long as I am careful and wait for the right time to steal the food. "Edward! where are you going with your bow and quiver?" Said Hakon.

"Oh I just thought I would try to go to the shooting range and practice my aim, isn't the best." I can't let Hakon know I'm going to steal food, he wouldn't approve.

"Bye Hakon I'll see you later!" I started off at a dead sprint and Hakon yelled something but I didn't understand it.

I need to gather as much food for myself without raising too much suspicion. If the guards find me I'll be lashed for hours just because it amuses them.

I ran through the dirty streets of the town and all the townspeople just stare at me with a look of disgust. Growing up in this place meant nothing to these people when I lost my parents. It's as if my old life never existed and I've always lived on the streets, scrounging for food barely alive.

The only friend I have is my best friend Thorn and we've been together for as long as I can remember. At first I believed that finding an abandoned hawks nest was just plain bad luck. It wasn't until I noticed the baby hawk in the nest that I realized it wasn't completely abandoned. Thorn and I are alike in some ways, I mean both of us lost our parents and were all alone in the world until we found each other. I just passed the stables which should mean the market place is just around the corner.

As I turn past stone brick walls I see all the little tents and I can smell the food cooking. I had forgotten today was the knighting ceremony! Of course this means with all the people in the town square I may be able to sneak away with some food. I exhausted most of my energy into all that running. I need to sit and rest for awhile and catch my breath, I need food desperately or else I won't be able to make it if I'm caught by the guard. There are so many different places to get food maybe I'll be able to steal some meat and cook it for myself and Thorn. I began walking up to a big building made out of solid oak logs with a brick chimney.

The smell of fresh cut meat was traveling up to my nose and I could see the butcher outside speaking with other towns people. I know there's a back door I can try to sneak in and get a slab of beef or two. As I slowly walk up to the back of the building I have to make sure there are no people watching.

As soon as I was sure no one was there I turned the knob and it was surprisingly unlocked. What luck that was, I walk in to a big open room with different cuts of beef all on shelves and one wall there is a large rack full of blades for cutting the meat. I looked for the closest pieces of meat I could find and wrapped them into my cloth sack.

I turn around to walk out the backdoor and... "What do you think you're doing you worthless urchin?" said the Butcher. Oh no he found me I need to run as fast as I can but I'm so out of energy from lack of food. Thorn flew over and began pecking the butcher in his eyes. "Get off me you damn bird!. Guards! guards help! The guards will be here soon I need to get away from here as fast as possible.

The Butcher began pulling out his knifes to try and kill Thorn I have to stop him. I pulled out my bow knocked an arrow, pulled back and let it fly. My arrow sank right into his chest and the Butcher stopped fighting Thorn and began trying to pull the arrow out.
