School au.

Strangers trope.

⚠️: Mentions of su*cide, bullying

Inspired by Hierarchy, the k-drama.

-----------------------------------

You stood on the edge of the building's rooftop, tears dried up on your cheeks, hands trembling to your sides and mind still spinning from today's earlier events.

The images of your fellow classmates ragging you, laughing and throwing things at you kept on playing in your head over and over again.

"Who let's such people attend?" A girl that sat in front of you had said.

"Yah! Why did it have to be our school? Couldn't you find one in your own hometown?" The school's most infamous bully had said, as he walked over to you, yanking you up by the collar with no shame.

No teacher had cared to interfere as they were controlled by the students' parents who sponsored the school. The institution was basically run by a hierarchy.

"Didn't you hear that at Jooseok High, we don't accept foreigners?!" Another mean girl had joined as you looked at all of them in fear but mostly irritation.

You had heard that this was a brutal school, and that's exactly why you had kept your true identity a secret. Not mentioning that you weren't a Seoul-born girl.

Though, you hadn't expected them to be serious about the whole 'Only Seoul-born Hierarchy'.(Which was ridiculous to begin with because at the end of the day everyone is Korean)

Now finding out after someone snooped into your life and exposed that you were from Daegu, even after your serious attempts of trying to mask your satoori(Korean dialect).

"Stand up." The class president had commanded you, hovering over your seat. "I said stand up!" He shouted causing you to flinch in fear. You trembled as you stood up.

"Get out of our classroom." He instructed, pointing towards the door.

"W-where should I go?" You almost cried as you were under pressure and couldn't believe what was happening to you. Like where had they expected you to go that very minute, right in the middle of a school day.

"Anywhere. It could be hell for all we care." These last words coming from him had set something in your mind.

Though, you hadn't tried to make another move after that as you were still in a daze of embarrassment and shock mixed together. You didn't even realize that some of your other classmates had joined you on either side and started to forcefully drag you out of there, on the popular kids' commands.

They then threw you out of the classroom and went back inside, took the trashcan and emptied it on you, while you were seated on the floor. And on top of that, they slammed the door on you.

You sat there, silently crying before remembering what your class president had said.

"Fine, I guess I'll go to hell then." You told yourself, taking a final step towards the edge. You made sure to close the rooftop's door, to prevent anyone from coming in so that you could do what you needed to do in peace.

Closing your eyes, you almost step forward into an endless fall, when someone holds your hand back, causing you to fall backwards onto the ground and on top of them.

You turn your head to face him, and your eyes meet as he stares deeply into your soul. "Get up." He instructs you and you immediately retrieve your senses back, getting off of him.

You also recognize that he is one of the students in your class, Lee Haechan. This is so bad because now you've been caught trying to end your life, which you failed in doing.

You turn on your feet back in the direction of the edge when he stops you. "Hey!" Haechan threatens. "Didn't you get my message."

"W-what are you talking about?" You turn back to him.

"Don't..." He starts to walk towards you as you back up. "Do. That. Here." He pulls your hand, taking you away from the edge and into the middle of the rooftop balcony.

"You mean, trying to kill myself?" You ask, when he leaves your hand and takes a few steps away from you.

"Yeah, go do that elsewhere. Not in school. And especially not when I'm present at this rooftop with you." He takes out a cigarette pack, placing one in between his lips as he starts to search for a lighter.

"Wow." You scoff. "So you were not even trying saving me?"

"Why would I?" He shrugs, finally finding a lighter in his chest pocket.

You're not surprised by his obnoxious reply as the school had already given you many surprises, one more rude kid couldn't surpass that.

With the idea of ending your life long gone, you stomp towards Haechan with a feeling of pure anger in your heart. You snatch the cigarette out his mouth before he lights it up and put it into yours, gesturing for him to also give you his lighter.

He is a bit taken aback and you could swear that he was about to cuss you out but stopped himself as you had outdone yourself. If you weren't wrong then you also saw some pride in his eyes as he hands you his lighter.

"What?" You ask harshly when you notice him staring(gawking) at you.

"Finally, a cool new kid." Haechan breaths, not taking out another cigarette to cater to him as he enjoys the cool breeze instead.

"You know me?"

"Yes. Class 1-a, Lee Haechan." He formally introduces himself.

"I know. You're an outcast." You point out and then quickly regain your manners. "I'm sorry."

"Tsk, I'm used to it." He says it like he doesn't care but you know better. "Those kids are trash and I should be apologizing to you since you're the new kid."

You roll your eyes at his statement, taking a drag of the cigarette. "Whatever, I don't care anymore."

"Is that why I found you..." He trails off pointing towards the edge.

"Ugh, shut up! And you won't tell anyone about that!" Although your voice sounds angry, your face still manages to turn crimson out of embarrassment.

"Why?" He nonchalantly shrugs and smirks so infamously you recognize it. "What's in it for me?"

You were starting to think differently of him since you were both similar. Outcasts who were not from Seoul. Though Haechan was different because he was actually born in Seoul but briefly raised in Jeju Island. That's why the class called him 'half and half'. This earned him a bad reputation, causing him to become the dark emo kid who talked to no one and barely attended class.

Also because he was good at arguing and using his fists, making it easier to avoid him.

Although, Haechan proved that at Jooseok, you had to earn your respect, like he did by instilling fear in others.

You had to find a way to be left alone just like he did. So you had to tackle him first, as he wasn't willing to call a truce.

You smirk evily and pull him in closer to you by his collar. "Don't tell anyone, and I'll keep your secret. Lee Donghyuck." You whisper before completely letting him go and walking off towards the exit.

"What did you just say?" He shouted, trying to keep up. "Hey, how did you know my real name?!"
