"Oh man, they're starting on her again."

"Yeah, yeah they are

"Yeah, yeah they are." I said, sighing with some disdain.

"They never take a day off." Jeff added, his face creased with empathy.

"Well, they do. It's just not our turn today." Dustin interjected.

"Why do they give her a hard time?" Mike asked.

"You've heard of obsessive compulsive disorder right?"

"Can't say as I have, weirdo."

And a little anger.

"Pulling the mental health card because your mom rummaged in trash cans and dumpsters,
and stuffed your house full of crap, that eventually fell on her?" Jason asked, as everyone encircling her laughed cruelly.

"There's no card to pull. And everything you just said is actually true, accurate, correct. What? You want me to feel embarrassed of my mom? You want me to be embarrassed, ashamed? Tell me something Carver, have your parents ever even give a shit about you?" She asked, as the pretzel in my hand, dropped onto the table.

I heard its small clatter, through my initial surprise at her steel tight defence of herself.

The laughter abruptly stopped.

"You think you're so smart, don't you? Smarter than me, freak." Jason snarled.

"Honestly? It's not that hard to be." She said, with a shrug.
