When the deafening gunshot travelled across the building. Shin immediately opened the door, but what he most feared already happened. The window was shattered, and no trace of Chika was left.
I ran as fast as I could, everything seemed blurry from my tears, but I couldn't be bothered. I did as what Oni insisted, running towards North. I don't know what to expect anymore. However, as I got closer to the port, a familiar figure came to sight. It was Dazai. He was waiting there on a boat.
I rushed there and jumped on, falling into his embrace.
"It's ok Chika, you're fine now." Dazai comforted me as I heartedly cried in his arms. His expression was pitiful, but it had something else to it. Guilt.
This continued for a few moments before Dazai finally started explaining. He told me about how Oni was my half-brother, and his name was Rei Haruno. Rei had predicted what would happen and contacted Dazai to carry out the plan. By that time, I've already calmed down.
"What about the others? How come you escaped?" I asked genuinely.
"We are all fine, nearly everyone escaped with some minor injuries. Looks like his main target was you. Now Port Mafia and the Agency have come to an alliance, and we are now heading to the new hideout. The organization will be destroyed." He replied. For some reason, the idea of destroying the organization seemed remorseful. After all, it's a place where I once belonged.
The scenery was midnight or close. The sky was immersed in the sea. It depicted a repetitive never-ending space, but also a modifying fate. The same yet revolving. Still yet moving.
"I felt your absence," I said.
Under the portrait, I fall into a dream of what I desire.
"I longed for you too," Dazai replied. Little did Chika know, Dazai was the one who introduced the plan to Rei, but in the end, Rei agreed without hesitation. But he feared for the hate of Chika.
The journey wasn't long, soon they arrived under a bridge, where the hideout was. Dazai slightly nudged Chika to wake her up, but she did not. Not only until then, under the dim light did he notice that the girl was pale and presented with uneasiness. He placed his hand on her forehead and realised it was at an abnormal temperature. With urgency, Dazai supported her back with one arm, and her legs with the other. Then carried her sick body into the entrance of an unknown chamber.
--
When I regained sight, the surroundings had changed. I slowly got up and felt a headache. Then I saw Dazai slouching on the chair beside my bed. He seemed burnt out and tired. What happened to me? But as the memory from before re-entered my mind, a sense of sorrow rushed through me. How long have I even been unconscious?
I pushed the blankets and got out of bed, giving the room a better inspection. There were no windows except for a fan, so we must be underground. The room was concrete and dull, nothing more than a mere bed and chair that Dazai was sitting on.
"You're awake Chika-chan," Dazai said with ease.
"What happened?"
"You had a fever, but it's gone now due to the medication. Calm down, it's only been a few hours, it's barely noon." He replied with a soft smile. This did not seem like him, a complete turn from what it was like the last time we met.
"Were you here the whole time?" I asked with worrisome.
"Well mostly...anyways, after getting yourself cleaned, come out and walk left until you arrive at the very end. Then just go in."
"Umm......"
"What's wrong? You need some help with showering?" Dazai offered sarcastically with a smirk. Now he's back to normal.
I blushed at the proposal, but then confronted, "don't think so low of me, but I think you need to get a shower yourself."
He looked annoyed, but kept the act, "We can do it together you know."
Now the annoyed expression transferred to my face, "you wish", I said before I grabbed the change of clothes from the top rail of the chair. Then headed for what seemed like a bathroom in the room's corner, shutting the door close from behind.
When Chika left the main room, Dazai returned to his sentimental demeanour and got out of the room. He walked up a flit of stairs before reaching a balcony-like area, then lit a cigarette. The weather wasn't clear, as if foreshadowing something unfortunate.
The bathroom was simple, but enough. During the shower, my head eased, and the headache was no longer there. I wonder where we were. Were we still in Yokohama? After the short shower, I soon got changed, it was black jeans with a graphic tee and converse. Nothing unusual.
I looked into the mirror once again. Who am I really? I've wondered that since birth. We've never really chosen to be born, or in this body of ours. We say 'our' hands, 'our' legs, but is that truly ours? Or truly us? These clueless questions will only bring meaningless answers, it does not have an answer, nor is it certain.
I took a hopeless sigh before exiting the room, and walked towards the ordered door. The hallway was also covered in bland concrete, and there were several other rooms with the same door as mine. The only supporting light sources were faint, but enough to guide me through.
After some time, I finally arrived at the described door. It was different from the others, and looked rather protected. Who's in there and what should I expect?
