Jimin pov.
"Jungkook!" Mingyu yelled from the hallway.
My eyes fluttered open, and I was staring straight into the dazzling Jungkook's eyes. His hand slid to the back of my neck, pulling me closer. I could practically feel his lips on mine before Mingyu yelled again.
"let's go, man!"
Jungkook sighed, then straightened just as Mingyu and Hoshi ambled into the kitchen. "Yo man, you're supposed to drive us home."
Grumbling, Jungkook squeezed his eyes closed, and said, "Okay. Just one second. Be right there."
Then he turned back to me. "Shit. I totally forgot they had to leave early, and I promised them. . ."
"It's fine," I said, feeling equal parts relieved and desperate for him to stay.
"Be here when I get back?" His eyes scanned my face earnestly, causing my stomach to turn inside out.
"Yeah, sure," I said.
He nodded and flashed me a cute bunny smile before he turned to the guys. "Okay, shit-heads, let's go."
Once he left, I let out a breath and whirled around toward the counter. Leaning in, I rested my forehead against a kitchen cabinet. After that moment with Jungkook and our near-kiss, I doubted I could stay upright without the extra support.
What just happened?
I nearly kissed Jungkook.
My stomach twisted at the thought.
"You know he doesn't really like you, right?" Lisa's voice came from behind me.
I jerked my head up, facing her in all her snooty bleach-blonde splendor. Her overly lipsticked mouth curved into a smile as she approached. "He only asked you out because he pities you."
I swallowed hard. "How do you know that?"
"He mentioned it to me." Lisa glanced at her manicure nails as if discussing the weather, not crushing my hopes. After a pause, she met my gaze again and added, "I just thought you should be aware. You know, as your friend. I wouldn't want you to get hurt."
"Sure," I replied, though I had no illusions about how much of a friend Lisa truly was to me. "Um, thanks."
"No worries." She shrugged.
Just as she spun around to leave the kitchen, Taehyung appeared in the entryway. Dodging him like the plague, lisa vanished into the living room.
With his hands in his pockets and a sheepish look, Taehyung sauntered towards me. "What did she want?"
I nonchalantly replied, "Oh, you know, the usual." I gazed at Taehyung, a jumble of emotions swirling inside me, knowing he had let me down tonight. Suddenly, exhaustion washed over me. I was unsure whether to trust Lisa's words, but the thought of Jungkook and I getting together seemed utterly absurd.
"Hey, about the game in there..." Taehyung approached me, nudging my arm gently. "I'm sorry. I acted foolishly. I just wanted to test a theory."
"A theory?" I inquired, feeling a lump form in my throat.
"I wanted to see if Jungkook likes you."
"Oh." I swallowed hard. "And what did you conclude?"
Taehyung's eyes crinkled at the corners with his half-smile. “Inconclusive. I can’t tell if this is just another one of his games or if he really is into you.”
“Well, no worries because I’m pretty sure I know the answer.”
Taehyung said nothing to that. Instead, he paused and glanced around. “Where is he anyway?”
