I was in the kitchen preparing a cup of coffee when Mrs. Smith walked in. The housekeeper's warm smile greeted me, and I couldn't help but return it.
"Hey, Elena, dear. What are you doing? You know, you could have asked me if you needed coffee."
"It's okay, Mrs. Smith. I wasn't able to sleep, so I thought I should make some coffee."
"It's okay, Mrs smith." I replied.
" By the way, why haven't you left yet? Isn't it already too late for you?"
"Yeah, dear, I needed to, but Mr. Moritti told me to stay here today since you were alone at home. So, he asked me to stay."
"Oh, I see."
Mrs. Smith's expression shifted slightly, and she looked at me thoughtfully. "You know, Elena, I wanted to talk to you about something."
I looked up, curious. "Sure, Mrs. Smith, what is it?"
Mrs. Smith took a seat at the kitchen table, motioning for me to join her. "I have been working for Enzo for many years now. When I first started, he was distant, very focused on work, very closed off. He rarely showed any emotion, let alone happiness."
I listened intently, curious about the Enzo that Mrs. Smith was describing.
"But ever since you came into his life," Mrs. Smith continued, "I've noticed a change in him. He smiles more often, he laughs. It's like you've brought out a side of him that I never thought I'd see."
I blushed slightly, feeling a warmth spread through me at Mrs. Smith's words. "Really? I didn't realize that."
Mrs. Smith nodded. "Oh yes, dear, it's very clear to me. You have a special bond with him, and it's changed him for the better. He's happier, more relaxed. He seems more... alive."
I smiled softly, not knowing how to respond. "But, you know, Mrs. Smith, sometimes he seems so cold and other times he's so friendly and happy. I can't decide what kind of guy he is."
Mrs. Smith looked at me with a knowing expression. "Hey, Elena, can I ask you something?"
"Yeah, Mrs. Smith, go ahead. You don't need my permission to ask anything."
"Do you love him?"
A blush showed on my cheeks, and I felt a wave of confusion. "I don't know, Mrs. Smith. I seriously don't know. Do I love him? If I do, I need to control myself. I want my feelings to get buried inside me. He is Enzo Moritti, after all. He's not into love; it's all bullshit for him."
Mrs. Smith looked at me with something in her eyes. "You know what, Elena? As far as I've known Mr. Moritti, he has changed. He has something for you. He seems different around you. I can see it."
"It's not like that, Mrs. Smith. Let's not discuss this. I'm here for some time. I'm not going to live here forever. It's better not to think about this. I'm happy he has taken care of me these past few days I was sick. I'm really grateful towards him, but I don't want any kind of hurt in the future. It's better not to think about this."
