chapter 5
the next morning, jake woke up with a fluttery feeling in his stomach. he couldn't stop thinking about the kiss he had given sunghoon the night before. it was a small gesture, but it felt significant. jake got ready quickly, eager to see sunghoon and his friends.
when he arrived at the dining hall, he saw sunoo, jungwon, and niki already sitting at their usual table.
"morning, guys," jake said, sitting down.
"morning," sunoo replied with a grin. "you look happy today."
"do i?" jake said, trying to act nonchalant.
"yeah, you do," jungwon said, smirking. "anything interesting happen last night?"
"not really," jake lied, though his cheeks betrayed him by turning pink.
"okay, spill," niki said, leaning forward. "we know something's up."
before jake could respond, sunghoon walked in, looking around until he spotted their table. jake's heart skipped a beat.
"hey, guys," sunghoon said, joining them.
"hey, sunghoon," jake said, smiling a little too widely.
"what's with you today?" sunghoon asked, chuckling. "you look like you won the lottery."
jake laughed nervously. "just in a good mood, i guess."
---
the morning classes dragged on, and jake found it hard to concentrate. his mind kept wandering back to sunghoon. he replayed the kiss on the cheek over and over, wondering if it meant as much to sunghoon as it did to him.
as he listened to his professor drone on about economics, jake found himself questioning his feelings.
"do i actually like him?" jake thought to himself. he had always admired sunghoon, but now it felt like more than just admiration. it felt deeper, more personal. it was confusing and thrilling at the same time.
during lunch, jake and his friends met up in the student lounge. sunghoon was already there, waiting for them. jake's heart did a little flip when their eyes met.
"so, what are we doing this afternoon?" sunoo asked as they sat down.
"let's do something different," jungwon suggested. "how about a movie?"
"i'm up for that," niki said.
"me too," jake agreed, eager to spend more time with sunghoon.
"sounds good," sunghoon said. "what movie are we watching?"
they decided on a comedy and headed to the campus theater. as they settled into their seats, jake found himself sitting next to sunghoon. the lights dimmed, and the movie started, but jake's attention was only half on the screen. he was hyper-aware of sunghoon's presence beside him.
midway through the movie, sunghoon leaned over and whispered, "you okay? you seem distracted."
jake nodded, trying to play it cool. "yeah, just tired."
sunghoon gave him a knowing look but didn't press further. jake felt a mix of relief and disappointment. he wanted to talk to sunghoon about his feelings but didn't know how to start.
...
after the movie, they decided to grab some snacks from a nearby café. as they walked, sunghoon fell into step beside jake.
"so, about last night," sunghoon began, his tone casual but his eyes serious. "that kiss... what was that about?"
jake felt his face heat up. "i... i don't know. i just felt like it."
sunghoon smiled softly. "i liked it. it was cute."
jake's heart soared at sunghoon's words. "really?"
"really," sunghoon said, looking a bit shy. "you surprised me."
jake smiled, feeling a rush of courage. "i've been thinking a lot about you, sunghoon."
"yeah?" sunghoon said, his eyes locking with jake's. "i've been thinking about you too."
they reached the café, and the conversation shifted to lighter topics as they joined their friends at a table. but jake couldn't shake the feeling that something important had just happened between him and sunghoon.
...
later that afternoon, they decided to head to the student lounge again. this time, they ran into heeseung and jay, who were already playing pool.
"hey, guys," jay greeted them, leaning on his cue stick. "fancy a game?"
"sure," sunghoon said, grabbing a cue. "let's make it interesting."
jake watched as sunghoon and jay teamed up against heeseung and niki. he couldn't help but admire how well sunghoon played, his movements smooth and confident.
"you're pretty good," heeseung commented as sunghoon sunk another ball.
"thanks," sunghoon said with a grin. "i've had a lot of practice."
"we should all play together more often," jay said. "it's fun hanging out like this."
"definitely," jake agreed, feeling more at ease with the group. he enjoyed their company and the way they all seemed to click.
as they wrapped up the game, they decided to grab dinner together. the conversation flowed easily, filled with laughter and friendly banter.
"so, what's the plan for tomorrow?" jay asked, taking a sip of his drink.
"maybe we could explore the city a bit," heeseung suggested. "there's a cool market i've been wanting to check out."
"that sounds fun," sunghoon said, looking at jake. "what do you think?"
"i'm in," jake said, smiling. "it'll be nice to see more of the city."
...
the next morning, jake found himself sitting on his bed, replaying the yesterday's events. he realized that his feelings for sunghoon were more than just a crush. he genuinely liked him. the thought made his heart race and his stomach flutter.
he decided he needed to talk to sunghoon, really talk to him about everything. taking a deep breath, he grabbed his phone and texted sunghoon.
jake: hey, can we talk?
sunghoon: sure. where?
jake: meet me at the park?
sunghoon: okay, see you there.
...
jake slipped on his shoes and headed out, his mind racing. when he arrived at the park, he saw sunghoon sitting on a bench, waiting for him. jake walked over, his heart pounding in his chest.
"hey," sunghoon said, smiling as jake sat down.
"hey," jake replied, feeling suddenly nervous.
"what's up?" sunghoon asked, his eyes searching jake's face.
jake took a deep breath. "sunghoon, i need to tell you something."
