NA-RA

"Na-Ra!" Just as i was about to reach for the scrunchie i heard someone calling my name and my head instantly turned.

It was Sunoo and the others, "Heeseung is looking for you, you have to come now!" He paused and looked at the person behind me, "Oh you've met Jake, come on both of you's!"

I didn't register anything Sunoo had said except the fact that i had been racing with Jake!

When we arrived to Heeseung, he was not pleased at all. I took a deep breath, "So it was all my fault, they told me not to race but i just really wanted to try it so i quickly went when they weren't looking. But hey i ended up winning so it wasn't all bad."

I looked at Heeseung pleadingly, expecting him to get mad or annoyed. "You did win...so i'll let you have this one but you're not racing anymore tonight!"

"Okay but she beat both me and Jake, are you sure this is her first race?" Sunghoon who i hadn't met yet properly said.

Heeseung looked at the time on his watch, "this conversation needs to end here because we need to get home now! Let's go Na-Ra."

The next morning i was extremely exhausted but i didn't regret it. Father had called us all down for breakfast.
"Heeseung your coronation will be in two weeks time so please make sure you are prepared." Heeseung nodded his head, i'm guessing he was tired too.

"Na-Ra you will be meeting your bodyguard right now, let's go, i personally picked him."  We all waited, anticipating, as Father brought him out, "Na-Ra, here is your bodyguard, Sim Jake."

I stood there, stunned, Jake didn't have any expression at all which made sense since he was working currently.

"Well, at least we know you're in good hands." Heeseung said who surprisingly didn't seem fazed.

"Oh right, one more thing, we have a charity event to attend tonight so no going out in the night." Father said as he eyed me and Heeseung suspiciously.

After father left with Heeseung, mother came up to me, "do be a dear and quickly go to the animal shelter right now, i'd love to go but i can't and no you cannot take Heeseung with you." She looked at me up and down almost with disgust and then left.

I turned around to head to my room to change, tears almost filling my eyes. I don't even know why i was crying but i blinked a couple times to stop them from falling.

As i was going up the stairs i had forgotten about Jake, my new bodyguard, i couldn't decide if i should try do small talk. In the end i decided not to and headed into my room while he waited outside.

We headed outside to the car where Jake opened the door for me. I hadn't been to the animal shelter in some time so it was weird going there but i had always loved the animals.

"Are you okay princess?" Jake asked as he drove away from the castle. I was unknowingly focusing on the veins traced along his arms.

"Yes i'm okay." I replied but i didn't want our conversation to end, "how did you get this role?" I asked, genuinely curious.

"Well Heeseung told me your dad was looking for a bodyguard so i thought i'd do it."

I looked at him while he focused on the road, "pardon me if you may find this rude, but don't bodyguards need to have other skills?" I kept my eyes on him and noticed a smirk.

"well i do have other skills that you'll see."

We had arrived to the animal shelter, Jake following behind, i was expecting him to wait outside the shelter but he came inside too.

"Your highness." Grace, the head of the shelter who was only a year older than me greeted me so did the other staff. They were all nice.

"Grace, i already told you not to call me that!"  I said, pretending to scold her, Grace was sort of my only friend but we barely see each other because I wasn't allowed to come out as much.

"Come, we have new kittens that were brought in today." Grace said as i followed next to her.

I sat down as the kitten was placed in my lap, "someone found them on the side of the road with no mother, we think they were abandoned." One of the staff explained. "i think she likes you."

The little rag-doll cat stretched in my lap as i gave it little tummy rubs. I'd always wanted a pet and i knew father wouldn't mind but mother would and she'd convince father not to let me have one.

"You know i'd want to take all the animals if i could, especially this little one, but i can't." I said gazing sadly at the kitten. I gave the small kitten back to the staff while i went around and petted the other animals.

"We always love having you around here your highness." Grace said towards the end of my time.

"Thank you, it's always my pleasure, i've brought you all gifts." I said while Jake took out the bags and i handed them out.

"No, you really did not have to, but thank you." I briefly said goodbye as i needed to get home and get ready for the charity event, i didn't even realise half the day had gone.
