what is happening in bangladesh?
in bangladesh, there is something called the "quota system" which in simple words is a nepotism system; where jobs are reserved for descendants of family members who fought in the war of independence in 1971. those group of people receive better job opportunities, and education opportunities than normal students. the system was removed in 2018, but reinstated by pm, sheikh hasina wazed. and thus students are protesting for democracy, justice and the safety of bangladesh.however, the government has wrongfully labelled these students as "rajakar", who are bangladeshis that supported and was involved in pakistan's brutal operations during the war. this fueled the protest more. 2,500 students have been arrested, and 61,000 have been named as accused persons in cases
the protest became more and more serious, and a student political group called bangladesh chhatra league, who support the current government aided in b3ating the protesters.
students have been k!lled in front of their peers, with around 200 injured. they would dr0p them from the rooftops of buildings. they would even r4pe female students.
police and armed forces are with the student group, because "they are with the government", as to why they haven't done anything. the police have shoot on sight orders, with them firing into universities and colleges.
hospitals are banned from releasing the true death toll, though it is believed to be 200+ but its possible it could be higher. medical records have been taken, and the cause of deaths have been tampered with to hide the governments actions. number of students missing is unknown.
students in dhaka university were attacked for praying for those killed. police have refused to retrieve the bodies of the deceased to their loved ones and families, making it difficult to bury them.
because of the government, nothing has been broadcasted, which is why you probably have seen hardly anyone speak up on the matter.
internet access had been cut off all across the country, despite the protests taking place in dhaka. my relatives in sylhet ( north east from dhaka ) are unable to contact my mother. my mother got an update from my aunty that the wifi is slowly getting better, but it is very slow. now they say that internet access has been restored to normal.
all of this is to prevent the students from broadcasting what is happening to other protestors, or in the other regions or even globally.
please please please pray for the students of bangladesh. the protests will continue to go on until the demands have been met.
