Blake

Helion flew slowly as he patrolled the city for trouble that lurked in the night. Things had been mostly quiet since they beat Victor, but every now and then trouble brewed. He had seen it firsthand even before Victor had the micro bug planted in his brain.

He had fought off two drunken guys harassing a couple of young girls and gave them bad sunburns as punishment. He had saved another woman from two other thugs, who came back and tried to take him down with a knife, and then again with a gun. By then the chip had already been planted and he mercilessly incinerated them to nothing but a pile of ashes.

He had even seen some of the shady members of the Order who run a secret factory that made immigrants of all ages and ethnicity deliver drugs, with promises of green cards as leverage for their freedoms. Victor himself had been the puppet master. And Blake himself was the puppet-turned-disaster.

Which was what put him where he was today on his quest to atonement. Multiple cold blooded murders and destruction of several properties had finally caught up with him. After the malfunctioned chip was removed, Chief Applegate employed him for community service as punishment for his crimes. Agent Paul Hartman said it was minimal punishment compared what he deserved. Still it was hard work, the first two months of community service, i.e. being Chief Tina Applegate's slave boy, was mostly labor work where he helped rebuild whatever he'd destroyed as Dark Flame, including the police headquarters parking lot, the bridge and damaged properties. And then there was the extra stuff that she signed him up for without his consent; like helping the mayor hang a giant superhero poster on top of city hall; carrying an ambulance to the hospital after total blockage on the road; and occasionally fetching coffee for Applegate herself.

Thank goodness she didn't complain about its off degree like Cat Grant did with Supergirl, he thought disdainfully.

Today, he spent two hours helping a construction crew secure their lifeline equipment on a building. They were afraid of what almost happened to Hector Hernandez last year would happen to them. Little did they know, that was a ploy orchestrated by a former high rank member of the Order to draw Quinn out of hiding. It was also the day Blue Spekter was born.

Helion got his head out of the clouds. Patrol ends in fifteen minutes, and then he'll get to go home and enjoy some nice Xbox. He just needs to stick it out for a bit longer.

A sudden beep in his ear comm told him otherwise.

Argh! What now? He pressed it.

"This is Helion." He reminded himself to be mindful of his words.

"There are some people who want to meet you down at the station," Applegate told him. "Right now."

"Who?"

"Two agents from a special unit in Texas. Agent Sharpe contacted them through his connections. They're here to see you regarding the gang that escaped the other night."

"Why? We're fine on our own." He wasn't about to let another flock of law enforcement butt into his life. Especially when this was his shot at redemption.

"Don't argue with me and just get down here, Helion. They have information that we need. They're here to help, and given what happened, we need all the help we can get."

Helion shut his eyes to take in the information.

"I'm on my way."

He turned off the communicator and started toward the station.

Damn it.

All because he screwed up, and now he got more trouble on his plate than anticipated.
