Quinn
They went back to the inn and spent the rest of the afternoon with Keegan's family. Random conversations started up among them when Keegan's parents got back. Quinn and Keegan slipped away for twenty minutes or so to take a stroll around the scenic area. It was easy to admit the Texas Hill Country was indeed a sight to be beheld. The heat in the state of Texas, on the other hand, was another story. It had gotten much hotter since they left Shadow Falls Academy.
Keegan wiped off some sweat from his forehead.
"Man, it's sooo hot out," he said.
Quinn quickly scouted the area with supervision to make certain there was no one close by. Then he pressed his hand to Keegan's forehead and willed cold into his palm–cold, not ice–to cool him down.
Keegan exhaled with relief. "Awww, that feels so much better." He turned and smiled at his superhero boyfriend. "You're awesome."
Quinn smiled a sweetened smile.
When they got back, they were greeted by Keegan's family. They then divulged themselves in enjoying a delicious dinner in the dining room with Keegan's parents and aunt while Uncle Albert was busy registering a reservation for some upcoming customers. Helen was absent because she needed to study for a test. While Quinn enjoyed a nice and normal afternoon with his and Keegan's families, the image of the mysterious waterfall lingered in the back of his mind like a shadow. Tim, Aron, and Keegan dismissed it as a daydream when he told them. "It's quite possible that you internally manifested it from the excitement of the day," Dad reasoned.
Quinn wanted to believe that. After all, the past couple of days had been full of surprises. In fact, his whole life had been full of surprises since Labor Day last September. Perhaps the stress was getting to him. Still he could not dismiss the fact that the scenery had felt very vivid.
The memory of Kylie's reaction earlier resurfaced.
Perhaps I should ask her about it. And talk to Ron and Blake and Ana María.
He allowed himself to enjoy the normalcy of the rest of the day, which was fairly easy with Keegan by his side. The family spent the next few hours playing Cluedo. It was almost like conducting an Aurora Teagarden investigation. Quinn was the "murderer" on the first turn. Not that he complained.
When it came time for bed, everyone retired to their rooms. Keegan and Quinn walked together since their rooms were right across from each other's.
Keegan faced him.
"Good night."
Quinn beamed.
"I'll see you later then."
Keegan's smile faltered a little. He was to ask what was wrong before he beat him to it.
"You gonna tell Blake about today?"
"Yeah. I told him I would. Also, that case from the night before spring break, I wanna see if they've made any progress."
Keegan's eyes narrowed with confusion. Quinn decided to be straight.
"Yeah, apparently those guys who got away had powers. We didn't know what they were before, but now I think they were vampires."
They now widened as shock set in. Quinn understood how he felt, because he had been going through the same thing in the past few days.
"No shit?"
Quinn shook his head, then whispered, "Yes, but let's not talk about it in the hallway where your aunt and uncle might hear us."
