Kylie

Kylie flipped the phone in her hands over and over. The sun had barely risen over the horizon. Sunlight was beginning to shine in through the window. And here she was, unable to determine how to make the call. After everything that happened, she felt it was time to tell Quinn the truth about his mother.

Quinn had texted earlier while she was asleep.

Thank U guys so much for last night. If it hadn't been for U, none of us would've made it. Appreciate the help. Hope to see you one last time before we leave.

Lucas turned in bed, felt the space where she was. His eyes fluttered open and looked until he found her sitting on the edge of the bed. He drowsily pushed himself up to a sitting position. The sheets fell off to reveal his beautifully muscular abs, arms, and that cute belly button she always loved to touch. Kylie gave herself two long seconds to marvel at her fiancé.

"Good morning," she said.

"Good morning," he said back, then noted the phone in her hand. "You waiting on a call?"

Kylie stared down on her device, feeling hesitant to tell Lucas about what she wanted to do. He has been working toward accepting it, and she has been patient. Just like she had been supporting him on his quest to change the were council's belief regarding intermingling and mixed marriages.

While her quest was focused on helping mend the broken bond between chameleons and other species, she also had to occasionally help a ghost or two. Lucas, like most supernaturals, wasn't keen on dealing with ghosts.

On the other hand, they had also promised to be open and honest with each other about what they wanted to do.

"There is something I need to do with Quinn. He's leaving tomorrow and I feel like there's something he should know before then."

"Like what?"

Should she tell him?

"It is related to a ghost?"

Kylie met his eyes. Not wanting to lie, she nodded. "It's related to his family."

Lucas diverted his gaze to thin air. Kylie turned away, not up for an argument in the morning.

She heard him sigh.

"Will you be safe on your own?"

"I won't be alone. I'm gonna be with Quinn, and I'll ask Burnett to come too."

It took a long moment before they spoke again.

"Okay. Then I'll call the council and have reschedule the meeting by a few hours."

That's unexpected. Kylie faced him with a confused look. His expression was gentle. Any impression of anger didn't exist.

"I'm coming with you. Don't argue with me."

"You are?"

Lucas scooted over to her side. His face came so close that his breath brushed her face. She almost told him to brush his teeth.

"You know I'm not happy about you dealing with spirits. But I'm learning to cope. Just like I'm learning to accept the fact that you're a protector, who's going to keep using your gifts to help those in need. And like I said last night, I want to be by your side. This is me showing how serious I am."

Feeling a tug in her heart, Kylie leaned forward and pressed her lips onto Lucas's. He reciprocated and kissed her back, that hypnotic wolfy sound rumbled from his throat again. The phone fell away from her hand, but she didn't care. They got back into bed. She climbed on top of him without breaking the kiss.
