#CHAPTER 1, NO ONE'S POV.
"boredom can lead to anything and everything"
━━━━━━

It was another spring day, May 23rd, in the middle of the first term at Karasuno High School. Like every other day, classes passed by smoothly for a certain girl. Her routine was always the same: wake up, go to school, leave school, sleep, and repeat. The cycle continued, day in and day out.

With such a repetitive schedule, it was no surprise that the girl was driven to intense boredom. The fact that she could finish all her tasks quickly only made things worse, giving her even more free time.

Don't get her wrong, she enjoyed having time to herself.

But sometimes, that time could feel a little too lonely.

Every single day, she wondered what to do next. How could she kill time? Everything she thought of seemed dull without someone to do it with.

"Y/N-chan!" one of her close friends, Yachi Hitoka, called out, rushing over to her desk. She slouched, panting and struggling to catch her breath. Y/N, noticing her friend's state, furrowed her eyebrows.

"What's wrong, Hitoka-chan?"

"Can you please... please join the volleyball club with me!?" the blonde pleaded.

"You play volleyball?" Y/N asked, surprised that she hadn't known this detail. They'd been friends since middle school, after all, and surely Hitoka would've mentioned it if she played such an intense sport.

"Well, no, but uh, I mean... I joined the boys' team as a manager! And, well, I don't wanna be alone! I mean, I'm not alone alone, but I need, like—uh, I need someone with me there!" Hitoka explained, her words all over the place. Y/N chuckled at her friend's frantic gestures.

"You mean you want me to join as a manager?"

"Yes..." Hitoka admitted bashfully, looking away.

"Even though Kiyoko-senpai is there, I still feel a little out of place sometimes," she added. Y/N nodded. "Okay. Having another club to join would help kill time, so I don't mind!"

Hitoka could only sweatdrop at Y/N's casual response, realizing the girl's true intentions. Y/N's eyes shifted toward the window, a small smirk forming on her glossed lips as she muttered to herself, "Maybe I'll find myself a new toy to help with my boredom."

"Kiyoko-senpai!" Hitoka called out as they entered the gymnasium. Kiyoko, hearing her, got up from the bench and approached them. She smiled warmly at Y/N.

"You must be L/N Y/N, first year, class 5," Kiyoko greeted. Y/N nodded, returning the smile.

"Thank you for wanting to be a manager for this team. I'm really grateful," Kiyoko bowed slightly to express her sincerity. "Please, come in."

Following her lead, Y/N's eyes wandered around the gym—from the floor and ceiling to the stands and finally to the boys playing a 3v3 match. She watched the sweat drip down their skin, a smirk creeping onto her face as a thought crossed her mind.

"Ukai-san, Takeda-sensei, this is our new manager, L/N Y/N," Kiyoko introduced her to the two men, who got up and bowed.

"Thank you for letting me be a part of this. Please take care of me," Y/N said politely.

"I'm the coach, Ukai Keishin. And you probably know him already, Takeda Ittetsu," Ukai gestured to the man in glasses. Y/N bowed once again.

"Everyone! Meet our new manager!" Ukai clapped his hands, calling the attention of the boys. They gathered quickly, their eyes locking onto Y/N. As the coach introduced them one by one, Y/N tried to mentally note their names but quickly gave up, realizing she'd forget anyway. Instead, she decided to play a little guessing game in her head.

"I'm guessing Blondie is a middle blocker, and the orange-haired one must be a libero. But that spiky-haired guy could be a libero too..." she mused to herself.

She wasn't completely correct.

After the introductions, Y/N bowed again. "It's nice to meet you all. I'll do my best as a junior manager of the team."

"Thank you!" they shouted in unison.

"Ahaha, we have two managers now!" exclaimed Tanaka, who sported a buzz cut. Nishinoya, the spiky-haired libero, eagerly agreed, while Hinata, the orange-haired boy, jumped around in excitement.

More words were exchanged, but Y/N didn't bother to focus on them, nodding occasionally with a slight smile.

"L/N-chan, do you have any experience with volleyball?" Kiyoko asked as they settled on the benches. Y/N smiled with pride.

"Definitely! My brother used to teach me, and we'd play together all the time."

The older girl smiled, leaving Hitoka and Y/N slightly flustered. Y/N quickly snapped out of it and turned to Hitoka.

"You! How come you never mentioned you were planning to join this club!?"

Hitoka shot up in her seat, trembling in fear. "I FORGOT!"

"Bruh..." Y/N deadpanned. Kiyoko chuckled at their antics before continuing to explain everything Y/N needed to know as the new manager.

"Kageyama! That toss was amazing!" Hinata praised, causing the taller boy to fluster slightly before he quickly turned annoyed.

"Of course it was!"

Y/N approached the duo and handed them fresh towels. Hinata smiled as he accepted his, while Kageyama stood frozen, his wide blueberry eyes fixed on the girl. Seeing her up close, he realized she was undeniably attractive—perhaps even rivaling the queen of beauty, Shimizu Kiyoko, in his eyes.

Y/N furrowed her brows in confusion. Was she handing him the towel wrong? "Am I supposed to hand it like this? Or maybe like this?" She fumbled with the towel positions, wondering if that was the issue. Hinata, noticing his teammate's dazed expression, snickered.

"Kageyama's got a crush! The famous King has a crush!"

That snapped Kageyama out of his trance. Without a second thought, he slapped Hinata on the head. "I don't have a crush! Now shut up, boke!"

Hinata cried out in pain, clutching the spot Kageyama had struck. "Kageyama! That hurt!"

"I don't care!" Kageyama growled, delivering a swift kick to Hinata's rear, which sent the poor boy yelping again. The vice-captain hurried over, while the captain scolded them both.

Not far from the scene, a snickering duo observed the chaos, expecting the new manager to be frightened away by it all. But they were so, so wrong.

Y/N stood there with a large, bright grin plastered on her face. Her eyes gleamed with a mischievous spark, and her entire aura radiated mischief. A million thoughts ran through her head, but only one stood out.

"I think I found the cure to my boredom."
