Gerald wished he had not invited Matilda out to dinner that night. Or any night really. The woman was beautiful and charming yes. If he really was straight he would be greatly impressed with her assets. She was also very self absorbed and self centered. From the moment he had picked her up at her townhouse she had talked on and on about herself.
Her interests.
Her hobbies.
Her family.
Her singing and love of music.
Her former job at the boutique in DC's Georgetown neighborhood.

It was not like the times he had dined with Alfred. Now that man could carry on a proper conversation with give and take. And everything he said was always entertaining and interesting and intelligent. As Matilda talked on in the car he missed Alfred more and more. He had to remind himself that Alfred was on a date and it wasn't with him.
And that reality hit him in the face when they entered the restaurant. The first thing he had seen was Alfred smiling politely and laughing at something that a tall slim handsome dark haired man was enthusiastically saying at a table in the far corner.
The man looked like he was enjoying himself with another man who was far superior to Gerald HighTower.
And Gerald felt miserable.
