Casey
The following week, Friday night after school, our boys soccer team had their second game of the season against Vitoria High-a school out of town.
If our boys managed to get through 4 rounds, they'll move on to the quarter finals. That meant only 3 more games to go. The anticipation had already been building and through the chatter surrounding us all, I knew that the tension made for a good game. Not knowing who might win set us all on edge, and the possibility of either team losing was on everybody's mind.
The bleachers were crowded with parents and students from both the schools. Both teams have already come onto the field for warm-ups and the large flood lights all around the field illuminated the entire event. The smell of food drifted through the air all around, and my stomach grumbled in hunger.
I haven't eaten for a few hours. Knowing that it was Friday and my mother hadn't made food meant it was every man to himself. I'd been too lazy to make me anything, knowing I'd probably end up grabbing something to eat at the game.
We arrived a few minutes ago, trying to find the best spot. Always somewhere between the field and the exit. A great view of the field whilst being closer to the bathrooms and food trucks.
Logan and I are sitting together tonight whilst Leeh, Chloe and Jordan are sitting in the row directly behind us. I Could hear their hushed whispers, knowing that the gossip probably centred around somebody sitting close to them. It seemed there was never a dull moment.
"I'm hungry, Lo," I whined, interrupting her conversation with a girl from our class, Megan. "I'm going to get some wings or something."
I saw no need to ask as I knew she always got a coke. When she in fact confirmed her order, I turned around to see Chloe already up and ready to accompany me. Always the sweetest.
As we exited our respective rows and descended the stairs, a voice called out in greeting. Chase and Brandon sat in chairs a few rows from us. I waved in greeting but didn't dare linger, knowing Chloe wouldn't allow me to.
"Seriously," she mumbled, leaning towards me with that wtf look on her face. "He's not going to stop until he gets what he wants."
I didn't dare ask, and being the wonderful friend Chloe is, I knew she'd tell me anyway. Though I had a pretty good idea why Brandon would want from me besides a greeting in return.
"Pussy," she said and threw her arm across my shoulder, tugging me closer with a bright smile. Her strawberry scented shampoo floated through the air around us. "It's crazy how I also know you well. And how that poor man will have to jerk off to the thought of you until he gets over it someday."
I chuckled at her vulgar response, both liking and despising how her stupid responses get to me.
"Seriously, Cas. You're special," her sombre eyes met mine and I blinked at her sudden change of tone. "You deserve only the best. Don't let any of these dirty douchebags touch you."
I thought she was the special one. Chloe was one of the kindest people I knew. Always logical and sweet and had the perfect balance of naughty and innocence-a balance I've grown to love and respect.
"Plus, I know you're waiting for your soulmate," she teased with waggling brows.
I was a hopeless and delusional romantic. I didn't want the mediocre love these guys had to offer. I wanted the real thing. She knew that.
I wrapped my arm around her waist and smiled as we entered the open space at the top of the stairs.
A few people were mauling around, chattering and laughing as they waited for the game to start. At the end of the hallway that lead to a piece of field beside the school, a few food trucks with short lines stood all around.
