As I add the final touches on my makeup, I stop for a moment and admire how good I look. A small smile forms on my face.
It seems as if everything in my life has been falling into place. I just moved into my first apartment in New York City. I moved to the city after graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in psychology. However, it seems I won't need to be using my degree anytime soon, as just after I graduated I got drafted to PWHL New York in the first round.
I am more than ecstatic to finally get to become a professional hockey player, something I've dreamed of since I was four. It makes me so happy to be able to inspire a new generation of young women to peruse their dreams of becoming athletes.
A couple of my friends who already live in the city bought tickets to a concert to celebrate. They are for an up and coming artist named Chappel Roan. I have heard a few of her songs before, and it's safe to say I'm super excited for tonight. I stand up and grab my purse from my vanity, spray some of my favorite perfume and leave my apartment.
After about a 35 minute taxi ride from my apartment, I finally arrive at Madison Square Garden, where the concert is being held. I look around and spot my friends Lydia, Harper, and Bella and walk over to them.
"Hi guys!" I squeal before hugging them.
"Hi!" They both say, hugging me back.
"Oh my gosh, I've missed you guys so much! How have you guys been?" I question.
"I've been great! Silas and I just got back from visiting his parents down in Pennsylvania and it was just incredible. You know how much I love them. Oh, and Kiki had gotten so big! She misses her Aunt Y/n." Harper rambles. I smile at her antics. It's always nice to hear how enthusiastic she is about what's going on in her life. I turn my head to Lydia.
"What about you Lyds?" I ask.
"I've been good. I just got a promotion at work. It also turns out Cleo doesn't have that eye infection we thought she had, so that's great."
"That's good." I say with a smile thinking about Cleo, Lydia's little 13 year old dachshund.
"What about you Bella?" I ask.
"Oh not much. I'm just glad to be out of school." She answers.
"I feel you there." Harper interjects.
"What about you y/n? How have you been?" Lydia asks.
"I've been pretty good, still just kind of setting in."
"Good. We should probably head in." Lydia comments. We all head in and find our seats. We all talk and continue to catch up until the concert starts. When it does, it is absolutely fantastic. The lights, the hair, the makeup, the costumes, just the general essence of the performance. There was one thing in particular I couldn't take my eyes off and that was Chappell herself. She was absolutely gorgeous.
Then about halfway through the concert, something completely unexpected happened. When she's singing good luck, babe she crouches down and stares directly at me when singing "when you wake up next to him in the middle of the night with your head in your hands you're nothing more than his wife, and when you think about me all those years ago you're standing face to face with I told you so." Then, she throws me a little slip of paper. I was shocked for a few seconds before picking it up and unfolding it. It had her number on it. I look up at her and she winks at me.
