Drew Hayes was quite possibly the sweetest kid alive.  He always put everyone else's needs above his own.  But sometimes, he pushed his own needs too far back.

Drew sat at lunch that Friday, the end of his third week at Pokemon High.  He noticed May was sitting at a table in the corner, all alone.  He picked up his tray, and sat next to her.  "Hey, what's wrong?"  She mumbled softly, "N-Nothing.  I-I'm fine."  Her stomach rumbled.  "Are you hungry?"  She nodded.  "Why aren't you eating then?"  "I....I can't afford lunch.  My family barely scraped together enough money to get me here."  "Then take mine."  May's eyes widened.  "N-No!  Drew, I-I can't do that!"  She protested.  "Yes you can and you will."  May finally gave in.  "You know, Drew, you don't have to take care of me.  I'm 17.  I think I can take care of myself."  Drew turned to face her.  "That's the thing, May.  You really can't.  And I just want to make sure you're okay, b-because.... I....... I care about you."  Drew mumbled, blushing.  "Drew..."  May reached a gentle hand up to the boy's face, and found the space between them soon closed.  I know I said I care about her, but it's more than that.  I..... I love her.  I just want to make sure she's alright.  She deserves to be happy.  May deserves someone who can make her happy, because she's a very special person.  What Drew didn't know was that he was the only person who would make May happy the way he wanted her to be happy.  "We should probably get back to our rooms now."  May said.  Drew nodded in agreement.  "Night, Drew."  May whispered and closed her door.  "Dude, you got it bad."  Another student said.  "S-Shut up...  You don't know her.  You don't know me."  He mumbled.  "Geez, dude, back off.  Just makin a joke."  The raven-haired boy stepped forward.  "Name's Ash, by the way."  "Drew."  "So, you got a thing for her, eh?  How long you two known each other?"  Drew sighed and said, "Four years.  Four freaking years."  He looked at the ground.  "And you still haven't said anything?!  Man, you need to grow a pair and tell her!!"  Drew sighed angrily.  "Yeah, I know.  She knows I like her, and she said she likes me, but neither of us are brave enough to make the first move.  And ever since she told me about her problems, I've..... kind of been taking care of her, since she can't handle her emotions very well."  He fought back his emotions, trying to keep a straight face.  "What kind of problems?"  Man, this kid is nosy.  "She, uh, she's bulimic.  And, uh, she cuts.  A lot."  Ash looked at the ground as well.  "Oh.  But what about you?"  Drew looked at him in shock.  "W-What do you mean?"  "You have problems too.  You're kinda too skinny for a seventeen year old. What's up with that?"  Drew's stomach growled.  "I, uh, I've been so busy helping May I haven't really stopped to take care of myself.  I like to take care of other people more than myself.  And, uh, I've put myself in danger a few times."  Little did the boys know, May was listening.  "Drew?  W-What do you mean you've 'put yourself in danger a few times'?"  She asked softly, walking towards them.  "Well, I'm gonna go."  Ash walked away, leaving the two alone.  Drew's stomach growled again before he could answer.  "Here."  May handed him a yogurt.  "Eat this, and then we'll talk."  After Drew had finished, May looked him in the eye and asked, "Drew, what exactly are you hiding from me?  How have you put yourself in danger?"  He sighed, then said, "I've been put in the hospital a few times for malnutrition and possible anorexia."  "But how were you malnourished?  Or anorexic?"  "I.... I do what I did for you: I help other people, sometimes a little too much for my own good, I guess."  May gently grabbed his wrists, and he winced at the pain.  "Drew, are you eating properly?  Taking care of yourself?"  It was then that she noticed she could feel Drew's bones through his skin, like he could hers.  "Drew..."  She rolled up his sleeve, exposing a few light bruises and noticable bones.  "Tell me the truth.  Are you taking care of yourself?"  Drew couldn't hold in his emotions anymore.  "No.  Not the way I should be.  I'm just a mess, okay?"  He said, emotion evident in his voice.  May hugged him, shocking the green-haired boy.  "I'm sorry."  She whispered.  "I-It's not your fault, May.  It's just my nature."  She sniffled, then smiled.  "From now on, we'll take care of each other, alright?" "Y-Yeah."  May hugged him again.  "Good.  Because I don't ever want to lose you.  You make me happy."  I...... make her..... happy?  But how?  I thought we were just friends, or something more than friends but less than a couple.  "May.... w-what are we?  Like, what is our relationship?  Are we friends, a couple, I don't know?"  She giggled, then laid her head on his shoulder.  "I don't know what exactly we are, but I think we found someone who shares our mutual weirdness, and decided to call it 'love'."  Yeah.... Love.  I guess that's what I feel for her.  It makes sense.  If I love her, I'd want to see her happy.  And if I make her happy the way I want her to be happy, then she must love me.  Drew fell asleep with a smile, knowing that the girl he loved just might love him too.
