Back story 1 year back The air crackled with unspoken tension as Haechan's words hung in the air, echoing the ache in Renjun's heart. "Renjun, I... I think I'm in love with you." The confession, delivered under the fading light of the setting sun, hit Renjun like a physical blow. All those shared lunches, late-night study sessions, whispered secrets, now felt tainted with a meaning he'd never imagined.
His laughter, usually easy and genuine, came out strained. "Haechan, you're... you're joking, right?"
Haechan's smile faltered, replaced by a vulnerability that tore at Renjun's insides. "No, I'm serious. I've been... I've been trying to tell you for a while now. Ever since... well, since we started hanging out."
The last year had been a blur of shared laughter, whispered confessions, and an unspoken understanding that bloomed between them. But Renjun had been blind to it, caught up in the comfort of their friendship, the safety of their shared history. Now, facing Haechan's genuine emotion, Renjun's mind spun, his heart a tangled mess of confusion and fear.
His gut screamed "run," a primal instinct fueled by a lifetime of watching loved ones get hurt. Love, he believed, was a painful dance, a fragile thread easily snapped. He had seen the heartbreak in his friends' eyes, the tears that stained their cheeks, the scars etched deep within their souls. He couldn't bear to experience that pain.
"I... I can't, Haechan," Renjun choked out, his voice trembling. "I'm sorry."
The rejection hung heavy in the air, a weight that pressed down upon them both. Haechan's face, once bright with hope, now mirrored the confusion and hurt brewing inside Renjun. He turned away, the silence between them deafening. That was the last time they spoke.
The weeks that followed were a brutal exercise in denial. Renjun ignored Haechan's texts, muffled his calls, and avoided their shared haunts. The guilt gnawed at him, a persistent ache that mirrored the emptiness in Haechan's eyes. But fear, a cold, calculating beast, kept him shackled, whispering warnings of a heart shattered beyond repair.
They both drafted to different universities. Haechan thought that's the last time he would see him but one faithful day he happened to see Renjun nearby the university. He wanted to run to him and hug him so bad but he couldn't so he decided to give him secret gifts. As one day he snuck into the classroom Jaemin caught him. Jaemin didn't know why tho. Later he remembered the story Renjun told him about him ex bestfriend, Jaemin assumed that Haechan is the one who Renjun had mentioned before and tricked Haechan to say his side of the story. And decide to help them with the help of Jeno by showing not all love hurts when it's the right person, Jaemin knows that Renjun loves Haechan but is scared to love him. Renjun feared that he will fell of Haechan that made him ignore him. He always believed love hurts. Later Renjun realised his love for Haechan. Then you guys know what happened 😉.
