Ryan's heart thumped wildly, the rapid beats echoing in his ears as if amplified. His breath came in sharp, erratic bursts, each inhalation a struggle against the suffocating fear that gripped him. He gathered his thoughts quickly and started running toward Officer Lucy.
On the other hand, Agnes began to suspect Tom. He had been with Xavier the whole time, and now, in the aftermath of the tragedy, something about his behavior seemed off to her. She watched him from across the room, noting the way he avoided making eye contact and how his hands fidgeted nervously. Agnes's mind raced, piecing together snippets of conversations and fleeting glances.
She moved closer to David, her heart pounding in her chest. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, each one more troubling than the last. She needed to share her suspicions but didn't want to cause a scene. Tugging at David's sleeve, she pulled him aside to a quieter corner of the room.
"David," she whispered urgently, her eyes darting to Tom, who was talking to someone, "I have a bad feeling about Tom. He was with Xavier the entire time, and something just doesn't add up."
David followed her gaze, his brows furrowing in concern. "What do you mean?" he asked, keeping his voice low.
Agnes glanced around to make sure no one was listening. "Think about it. Tom was the last person with Xavier, and now Xavier's dead. When Officer Lucy arrived, Tom seemed to be found nowhere, almost like he was not in the party. I can't shake the feeling that he knows more than he's letting on."
David's expression grew serious as he considered her words. He nodded slowly, understanding the gravity of her suspicions. "Alright, we'll keep an eye on him," he agreed, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "But we need to be careful. We can't accuse him without any evidence."
Agnes nodded, feeling a bit more at ease with David's support. Together, they subtly watched Tom, noting his every move and interaction. They needed to gather more information, to piece together what had really happened to Xavier. The tension in the room was palpable, each student lost in their thoughts and fears.
As the evening wore on, Agnes and David's vigilance didn't waver. They exchanged glances, silently communicating their concerns. The stakes were high, and the truth seemed to be slipping further away with each passing moment. Agnes knew they had to act fast, but they also had to be smart. The real killer was still out there, and she couldn't afford to make a mistake.
In the midst of the chaos and grief, Agnes clung to the hope that they would uncover the truth. The weight of her suspicions about Tom pressed heavily on her, but with David by her side, she felt a glimmer of hope. They would find out what really happened to Xavier, no matter what it took.
She started moving slowly toward Tom to see who he was talking to, and before she could reach him, she heard someone shouting her name.
"Agnes! AGNESSSSS!"
Agnes and David turned around, recognizing the voice. They looked at each other before following the sound, which led them to Emily. She was crying, blood coming out of her mouth. She took a step forward and then collapsed. Agnes rushed to her side, trying to help her get up, but Emily was coughing up more blood.
Agnes was terrified. Emily hugged her tightly and whispered, "I'm sorry."
Agnes, her voice shaking with fear and desperation, said, "It's all going to be okay. Just breathe, Emily. Please, please don't die on me. I can't lose you too. Please, David, help me!" She shouted, looking around frantically. "Tom! Tom! Where are you?"
Emily, struggling to breathe, managed to say, "Call Andrew. His life is in danger."
"What?" Agnes asked, her voice filled with confusion and panic. "What are you talking about, Emily?"
