I flutter my eyes open. I guess I fell asleep. It's already dark? I light a candle and look over at the clock I found while searching for food. It's not that late. I turned to look at the boy I practically just kidnapped. Still not awake. He wasn't meant to be out that long. I walk over to him and lower down to his level. I examined his face and end up getting completely lost in his features. I see his eyes start to slowly flutter open and panic. When I catch his attention, he backs up into the wall. I fall back onto the floor, readying and excuse just in case he asks if I was staring. I shouldn't have been staring to begin with. As soon as I get up, he pulls out his sword pointing it towards me as he slowly stands up. "Who are you? What's your name?" He asks sternly. He sounds serious, but he looks terrified. I haven't used my voice unless I'm thinking aloud. He's not the first person I'd choose to interact with after 11 years of none. I walk towards him and he back up. He fell on the floor and dropped his sword, sweating. Gross. He reaches for his sword but I step on it. He jumps back up and puts his hands up. I stumble and kick the sword back with me, keeping it under my boot. "How confident." I say. I remove my hood and smirk at him. "Drop the act, your not quite as confident as you sound." I drop my smirk and walk into my kitchen. God, I'm starving. I don't steal for nothing. I grab a book and flip through it. I look back at the boy who's still frozen in place. My white hair isn't that scary. I even had it in a bun. Might as well let him pick what we eat. If I kidnap someone I have to feed them, right? I walk up to him and hold out my book. He gives me this blank look. "Why are you still standing there. Take the book, fool." I shake the book. He shoots straight for his sword instead. Is this kid serious? With a few swift movements—up, left, down—his sword is on the floor, again. But this time, next to me. I pick it up and walk outside, hearing his footsteps trailing behind. I walk towards the lake and turn around to look at him. "You want this?" I ask him, giving him a look as I held up his sword. "All you have to do is.." I turn back to the lake. "Fetch." I drop the look and the sword as he comes running. He was too late, watching as it drifted off. I started to walk back towards my place. "How pathetic." He stayed quiet so I turned around. He seemed taken aback by what I said. Does he not realize? "You know," I spoke as he started getting up and walking towards me. He looked at me with these eyes, I can't explain it but they almost look dead. This scared me enough to have me look away but not stop talking. "Your nothing without the sword, you can barely even stand still without looking afraid." He stopped in front of me but he didn't look scared, he looked serious. I started backing away but he kept walking. This had me wanting to run away. "I'm sorry, it was just a joke." My back hit the wall and I take a big gulp. He met me eye to eye and started examining me just like I had to him. Confused, I ask "What is this." Just as I opened my mouth again, he said something that I had never thought I'd hear in a million years. Not ever again. "Melody?" He asked. I felt all the blood drain from my face. I felt the horror and fear as he looked at me shocked but not too surprised. Almost like he'd figured I'd be Melody. "How did you.." I trailed off. "So you admit it, you are indeed Melody." He scoffs and pulls out a tiny dagger. How many sharp weapons can one have? He places it to my neck. It usually shouldn't be more than one weapon by the way. What are you doing here, everyone has been searching for you. For years." Good to know I'm still loved! "And..what happened here." He stuck his dagger into my hair, a few pieces falling off the top as he removed it. "Well? why are you still standing there?" Is he mocking me?! He he pushes the knife down on my neck more and I put my hands up in surrender. "You wouldn't kill the princess." He smirked. Ge laughed and then looked me straight in my eyes. "Try me." I got nervous again. "I'll tel you everything just..put the bloody knife down..and come inside." He pushed off the wall. I let out a relieved sigh. We walked back inside and he took a seat on the bed. I took a seat in the kitchen in the chair I fell asleep in. I guess it's finally time to explain what really happened.
